OP, I'm an eBay buyer only (sold a few things about 4 years ago, it was too much hassle to do again) and I fully support you if you decide to fight this. The new fb rules are unfair and it does sound like this buyer is having regrets that aren't your fault.
Your auction stated no returns. The end. |

I don't know about what drives the prices down on eBay and quite frankly, I really don't care in instances like this. Ebay gives sellers the option of accepting returns or not and until they remove that option and make returns manditory, I believe that sellers should stand their ground and fight unreasonable buyers like this one. Like I said before, as a seller, I've won way more SNAD disputes that I have ever lost. IMO, it's the principal of the matter. |

Oh, OK, fair enough! ![]() Another point is that, I suppose I'm a bit of the opinion that, unless one has bought the bag, personally, from an authorised stockist, that one can never really know, for absolute sure, what may have happened to it. Some bag/leather repairers are very good, after all. For example, I have two bags from the same line, that I bought from eBay and I also have a bag from the same line that I bought, personally, from NAP (all are different styles, but all are made from exactly the same leather, are the same colour and have the same beading) and even though I'm 99.99% positive that the eBay bags have not been redyed, as they look (and smell!) just the same as the bag from NAP, I cannot state, categorically, that they haven't; as they have not been in my possession since they were first purchased from an authorised store. I would stake my life, if I had to, that they had not, but I would not be able to state it as an absolute fact, if someone challenged me on it. Also, you assume that the buyer is BSing, but how do you know, again for sure, that she hasn't been misinformed by the store? It does happen quite a lot, as the SAs often don't have much of a clue about their brand! ![]() I appreciate that you feel she's been trouble from the get-go and that that, effectively, proves she's lying but, often, buyers behave like this (i.e. asking lots of questions and sounding panicky) because they suddenly have pangs of worry about the seller and/or the item; in this case, possibly, brought on by the postal delay. So, it's not, necessarily, buyer's remorse. If she was already nervous about you and her purchase, she might also have been far more inclined to go looking for reassurance from the store and then to believe any (possible) nonsense she was fed! ![]() I know you don't want to hear more reasons to accept returns, but when I see NO RETURNS, or whatever, I'm inclined to think (rightly, or wrongly) that there may be some reason for the seller not wanting the item back (e.g. damage, non-authenticity etc.), so it makes me feel less secure with that seller than I would otherwise feel and if there is a problem with the item, I'm more likely to worry about it. So, ironically, if I'm in any way typical, stating NO RETURNS might actually make you more at risk of getting them!

I honestly don't know what the deal is. It seems kind of funny that she would be so paranoid when she didn't have any problem spending $2600 on a Chanel clutch that retailed for $2650 the day before. Very strange.
Well, it's been 7 hours since she called me and I'm still waiting for her return phone call. Supposedly, she had another call coming in that she had to take. ![]() Oh, I have sold 23 Authentic designer bags in the last 5 years with a NO RETURNS policy and never had a problem. |

It may happen all the time, but I'd happily put money on it (another gamble!) that buyers are far more likely to leave a seller a neg if they are stuck with the unwanted item.
You may not, but many of us, who would like to get the best prices for our items that we can, do. Why should we get less than we otherwise could (or just not bother selling on eBay at all!), just because eBay is viewed as the Wild West of shopping environments (or, perhaps, the Las Vegas? If I were to carry on the gambling analogy! )?

Or is it? Maybe something happened with that clutch that made her paranoid about your bag? ![]()
Well, hopefully, she'll get around to calling you, eventually and you can try to figure out whether this is a genuine worry she has, or not. ![]()
![]() Sounds about right - 1 in 20 for clothes, 1 in 23 for bags!

And as regards feedback, it seems that nowadays buyers are far more likely to leave a seller a neg for just about any reason including but not limited to waking up on the wrong side of the bed. The feedback system in place on eBay is a one-sided, unfair joke that has lost most of it's REAL value and any person who sells on a regular basis will no doubt agree. I have great feedback that I've worked hard to build over the years - but I'm no slave to it. If someone wants to leave me a neg because they want to be an ass, there is nothing I can do about it. eBay makes that perfectly clear. But what I CAN do is fight BS SNAD disputes from people who use eBay like it's a high-end online department store where they can "shop" and then attempt to return on a whim due to some BS excuse (read: LIE) that they've made up regardless of the return policy in place when they enter into the contract (win the bid). And I'll keep on fighting them. So far, I like my odds. ![]() And I don't believe for one second that the OP didn't know what she was selling. The color is not "off". The buyer is. |

Perhaps after 11 years of selling, you can have pretty much whatever returns policy you like and it makes no difference? As you have a reputation to rely on. But it definitely affects the amount of money I'm prepared to spend on eBay, when so many sellers have a no returns policy. I tend to only buy small items, of lowish value and only rarely risk buying anything over about £100 (unless it's a seller I'm pretty sure I can trust). I know other people take the risk with far higher value items, but then, quite a few of them end up on here, or on other forums, asking how to file a SNAD dispute! ![]()
No, not just any person who sells on a regular basis - I also TA that it is completely unfair that sellers cannot leave buyers negative fb, anymore, but we have to remember why that rule was brought in in the first place, don't we? It was only brought in because bad sellers were making buyers feel as though they couldn't leave honest fb, for fear of receiving retaliatory negs. ![]() Therefore, honest sellers (like you!) should be angry with the bad sellers who caused this to, finally, happen; rather than with buyers, or even with eBay. Of course there are bad buyers, too, but in my (admittedly relatively modest!) experience as an eBay seller, I found all my buyers to be remarkably good, polite and honest people. I only had one minor problem - a buyer who didn't pay for 2 weeks, but even they paid in the end and said they had been on holiday (vacation); which, although not ideal, was not the end of the world. As I say, I did have a return request, but I do not view that buyer as a bad buyer, just because they changed their mind about an item, once received. ![]() I realise that a lot of sellers do and I guess that is what I am taking issue with...
But you wouldn't need to fight them and they wouldn't need to make up BS excuses, if you just accepted returns (perhaps with a small restocking fee, if that would help?). I just can't understand how treating the buyer like the enemy is a healthy attitude for a seller to take? Buyer or seller, we are all human beings, at the end of the day and we should try to respect each other, wherever possible, IMO. ![]() I also believe that sellers should have even more respect for buyers than buyers should have for sellers, even if those buyers wish to return an item - in an attempt to, wherever possible (and I know it's not always possible), follow the old adage that; 'The customer is always right.'; although I realise that I'm probably extremely old fashioned (especially for my age)! ![]()
I think you're, almost certainly, right that the OP is correct and the bag hasn't been redyed but, even so, we still don't know, for certain, that the buyer is BSing; because YSL could have made a mistake. |

Did I open a can of worms or what? We can all agree to disagree but this is getting ridiculous. I thought I started this thread but I'm not so sure. Chloehandbags, I don't know why you feel the need to defend each and every little comment that is posted on here that you don't agree with. This is a simple message board to discuss various things and get opinions and advise. You really need to stop taking everything so personal. You conduct your Ebay business the way you want and let everyone else do the same. We all know what your opinion is which explains your 10,000 posts but enough already. I'm not trying to be rude but really??
Update: I have not heard a word from the Buyer. She did post positive feedback on the $2600 Chanel bag so I don't think this is anything but "buyers remorse"! |

^ I'm not taking anything 'personal'.
![]() print*model quoted me twice, so I replied to her twice - that's how a forum works (or so I thought?). ![]() Perhaps I've been getting it all wrong for my 10,000 posts, though! ![]() The vast majority of those posts, BTW, have not been about me giving my opinions -they have been genuine attempts to help other members, via authenticating, or helping people to deal with bad eBay sellers and buyers etc.. How useful they have been, I don't know? But at least I try. ![]() I'm more than happy to bow out of this thread, though - as long as no one else quotes my posts, or speaks to me by name (as you just have!). ![]() If they do, I probably will reply to them; assuming that's OK with you, jl?

Buyer's remorse, lying buyers, unethical buyers.. are stories here on the ebay forum DAILY. Some win, some lose.. but TBH these days, the majority of buyers often win when filing SNAD. Sadly, without any valid reason. PP CAN BE very biased towards a buyer. SO.... don't take it personal. Each poster is simply telling of their own experience, PLUS what they see daily happening to other sellers on ebay. Rather than a can of worms, consider it an kindly FYI. I don't see either poster intending anything "personal", they are both simply sharing their different experiences.

It's so rare to see someone succeed so well, especially when they claim to not be "trying". You did it so effortlessly. Well done. |

Not to keep going on, since Ellie Mae has explained already, but you did say yourself that this IS a message board to discuss various things and get advice. You opened it up. Chloe was just being nice and giving you some advice. You really didn't have to be rude about it. Hope you get what you think you deserve regarding your bag you sold.

This is exactly how I feel. If I'm going to spend $1,000+ on a designer bag, I feel better knowing the seller has a return policy. For me, as a buyer I see a "no return" policy as a red flag. I see that and wonder if the seller may be trying to hide something. There are a lot of people who think they can sell their unwanted items on eBay and lie about the condition by omitting the tiny flaws. I like large photos(hate the tiny thumbnails), detailed description, and a seller who tells me that my satisfaction is the #1 goal. That includes a return policy. I've been buying on eBay for a long time and have learned to stay away from sellers with "I'm not responsible" clauses. |

Can I just add something about returns..iv not sold much stuff on ebay previously, only a couple of bags before hand and have also stated no returns simply because im paranoid about a bait and switch!!! If the seller does accept a return for the bag how will she know if it is in fact the same bag? Totally off topic now, but out of curiosity and for future reference, how can we mark our bags so that we get our bags back??
Now back onto topic..perhaps the buyer is just concerned about the bag and would rather just send it back to you than go through a whole dispute but after reading the stories on hear i would be paranoid about the buyer! I suppose the problem with sending out returns is that yes its a hassle and iv already mentioned the bait and switch but if you can sort that out, along with getting your ebay fees back then i suppose its not really a big deal if something is sent back. To be fair there are two sides to this story and in honesty you both are quite likely in the right here!!! |
