I am curious... as a Postal Inspector, what did your Dad think about this situation of a carrier signing for a pkg?

He said it is definitely against USPS policy- the carrier should not have forged her signature and left it at the door. He said that USPIS will investigate, and if it is discovered that the carrier violated policy, he will likely be punished.

However, my dad doesn't normally deal with this kind of case, so he's not sure what the outcome will be.

I understand, as I am sure that this type scenario is not "daily routine". It's most distressing as the buyer and seller did their due diligence... yet the PO employee took liberties, which have now caused a loss of funds and goods. Very distressing!
I am glad to "meet someone". if you will, who knows something about USPIS. As I have always wondered if part of USPS and how they operate. Sounds like a "CSI" type job, which of course, I am intrigued! See if you can get your DAD to join TPF and tell us how all this works!! SERIOUSLY!! Does USPIS really investigate mail fraud for transport of counterfeit goods? I promise you that we could keep him busy for DAYS asking such questions!! And it would be AMAZING to have a source who could answer these type questions.

oh gosh, I can't even imagine my dad on TPF!

If you'd like, maybe you can make a list of questions that I can ask him, and I'll report back.

Being a postal inspector is very much like a "CSI" job They deal with everything from potential bombs in the mail and anthrax scares to identity theft that occurs through the mail. USPIS also investigates mail fraud for transport of counterfeit goods. And sometimes there are reports of USPS employees at sort facilities or major hubs stealing packages (especially laptops and other expensive things), and USPIS will do undercover work to try to bust people. Basically anything illegal that happens via the USPS mail system will be handled by USPIS.

Honestly wouldn't worry about it, go around in circles. The USPS screwed up, OP reported it, they will investigate and either find the package or pay.

I am mostly curious about mail fraud... as in a seller who uses USPS to ship a counterfeit bag. OR even someone who sells a bag and then ships a box full of rocks, or a completely different item of lesser value. I would guess this type scenario would still qualify as fraud....? Interesting to know how they investigate and prosecute such...
Oftentimes, we see threads here about both type situations and advise filing a mail fraud charge, but then never hear anything back as to was a charge filed and what happened.
THANKS Rilokiley!

And the old Postmaster here has told me stories of working with them and the secret camera stings they've set up, watching from behind hidden glass and going out of back doors no one realized was there! LOL

To the OP, I'm so glad you are fighting this and sticking with it! Best of luck to you, I hope you are refunded in full for the price of the bag. This carrier and this post office supervisor need a real wake up call, they should know better.

Linda

So, I tried to call the Postmaster this morning (9 am) and she told me that she hasn't had the "chance" to speak with the carrier. And she said to bear with her, and she will get back with me this afternoon. Well it's 1:15pm and still no call from her so I called her, and the snooty supervisor answered the phone, with a very pleasant voice but soon changed to a very snooty unpleasantly mean one when she found out who I was and said, "Hold." Wow, are you kidding me? Talk about uncourteous public servant! Then after I was put on hold for 20 mins or so, she got back on the phone and told me that the Postmaster is unavailable to take phone calls.....
If I don't hear from here today by 5 pm, I am going to my local news crew to see if they can help me and go to the police station as well. I'm gonna have to take a personal day from work to do all this, so frustrating!!

I also wanted to tell you guys that rilokiley's dad is trying to help with the case, my seller forwarded him some info about the case and in turn forwarded the info to our local USPIS...
Thank you again you guys for all the support! I really appreciate it.

I think the postmaster is really not helping the usps at all by trying to ignore you.
I mean the only reason you are calling is that they did something wrong and they should be falling over themselves to correct the mistake not hoping you will give up and go away.
Make sure that you have a copy of the signature saved on your computer or print it out, I worry for you that if they decide to try to cover it up anyway the tracking info could mysteriously vanish from online.
It's great your getting help from rilokiley's dad, it's great to have someone who knows the system from the inside also I would also go ahead with the police report, as this may make the local depot wake up a bit and take some notice.
Good luck, just keep going and don't give up!

How annoying this must be for you! They did something they're not supposed to do and now take it out on you. Grrr! I think is very kind of rilokiley's dad to help you out and, hopefully, this will get resolved soon.
