I do know that Fedex has been outsourcing some local deliveries to the USPS for final leg delivery (I call it snailmail) but not sure if USPS is being overloaded or low on staff in some areas to require contractors to fulfill the requirements they have.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the USPS to make things right. Even when you do everything right they can still screw you.

Case in point: I returned a Lt. Ed. Cerise speedy to a friend (we traded cerises) and I sent it with all the bells and whistles, including insurance for $900 (what I had originally paid for the bag). USPS lost the bag and it was never found.

I put in the claim and because I could not supply proof that I paid the $900 for the bag (I did 2 PP payments which did not specify what I was paying for), they sent me a check for $540.

I appealed it all the way to Washignton, D.C. and it was basically too bad, so sad. Take it or leave it. So I did everything I was supposed to and USPS lost my bag and stole $390 from me

I don't think it's unreasonable for USPS to require proof of value before paying out a claim.

bunnymasseuse - Yes, both UPS and Fed-Ex source out to USPS. We don't get Fed-Ex at our location but every day the UPS man comes with a handful of packages for us to deliver for them. You can tell this on the packages you receive because you'll see both a UPS tracking number and a USPS delivery confirmation number.

I can't believe the seller didn't get insurance on the bag. (I'm assuming it cost a pretty penny.) I hope things work out for you.

The carrier had told me that my neighbor across the street saw her put my package in front of my door. I did ask that neighbor, and she said she saw the USPS parked on the side of the road, she asked the carrier if she has a package today, carrier said no, it's for****(my addresss) Remember the carrier insisted that this neighbor might've "swiped" my package. I honestly do not think so..I also asked the neighbors and they had said no..since most of us work during the day..

AND, had the PO delivered it TO YOU for a signature, it would have been.

As best I understand, USPS INS is for items lost PRIOR to delivery, which would not apply in this particular instance, I do not think. It was lost AFTER delivery, due to USPS improper procedure.

I would still be raising unholy H**L with the post office. The squeaky wheel gets the grease....See if the insuranace on the pkg can be claimed if all else fails. I would threaten to sue the p.o. or go a higher up in the system.

Oops. Why didn't the seller insure the package? That is their responsibility. Then THEY (the seller) would have to take it up with the post office and get reimbursed..oh boy this is a sticky one. Someone is not telling the truth (the carrier or the neighbor or possibly the thief that swooped by and randomly got the pkg?)

This is horrible, I have a few times got packages left by ups which required a signature, but never by usps.
I think you've got some good advice from people here and the route I would go down would be to speak to someone in the usps higher up (via phone), as I don't think that forging someones signature can be official usps policy and I'm sure someone at your local usps office should be held accountable for doing this.
The usps also shouldn't leave anything outside people's front doors and blaming a the person across the street is also very unprofessional IMO.

Exactly, this is what I kept on telling the people at the PO but it was like talking to a brick wall.
My seller just informed me thru email that she tried to contact the Postmaster as well, and left a voicemail..we'll see what happens to that as she is now going to be dealing with me and her.

That is good that your seller is trying to assist. But TBH, I think YOU may get further, as this was YOUR address, YOUR carrier, YOUR local PO. And it was signed for on YOUR behalf.
At any rate, you should file a complaint at the 877# provided by LindaP and w/ the Postal Investigators. And I would. There is something inherently wrong when a carrier signs for a pkg on behalf of a postal recipient. She likely thought she was doing you a favor, but truth is, a postal carrier cannot determine the contents or value of a pkg and should not ever take that liberty when sig confirm is required.

Curious.. did the carrier sign YOUR name??

LindaP.... since you are employed by USPS... can you tell me, for DELIV CONFIRM, does the carrier SIGN that a parcel was delivered?
