Default Annoying buyers canceling bids. humph.

I thought that a buyer could only cancel a bid if they bid again right away (oops! wrong amount!). I've had a rash of auctions where people bid (then no on can BIN) and then days later cancel due to "wrong amount" and then never re-bid.

Isn't that against the rules?

It makes me furious as I bet I've lost a lot of impulse BIN'ers.

It happens... I guess it's better to have the bidder back out before the auction ends rather than after. This why most of my auctions have BIN and best offer and no bidding anymore.

aha! that's a good thing to know! Obviously, I would rather have someone bail before the auction ended and they become a deadbeat. But the fact that they are mucking my auction up really makes me steamed.

Yeah, you can report them for the abuse of the bid retraction. I'm not sure what happens after that, maybe you could try and do it and report back?

They can cancel their bid without bidding again, but I think if they do that too many times on various auctions it is then considered abuse and eBay might suspend them.

May I ask what you are selling? Because it is quite possible that someone is contacting telling them that your item is not authentic or that they have the same one at a lower price. I bid once many years ago on an LV wallet and I was contacted by some random member telling me that the wallet was fake, never made in that colour etc... so I retracted my bid and noticed the next few bidders did the same thing.... not saying that your item is fake but sometimes (and sadly a lot of ppl on this site) think they're Designer bag experts and wrongly accuse people of selling fakes.... they report listings and contact other buyers (sometimes they're right sometimes not)

There are only a few options that allow you to retract, if you retract due to the 'wrong amount' you must bid again with the correct amount or you are in violation, one of the other options is 'unable to contact seller', which is one I've had used for cancellations on mine, I reported the buyer, as I knew they hadn't tried to contact me, but I am unsure of how you prove that other than that eBay can check your messages... proving that they didn't re-bid is easy, cause you can see they didn't!
