Default advice on first big ebay purchase

hey y'all,

i'm about to buy one of those Prada Fairy bags from eBay seller "theartofacquisition" any news, advice, etc? it's funny, but i thought i was all set. i don't want to be a bag ebayer, but now i'm suddenly worried because - believe it or not - it's harder to *pay* for this than it should be. seller said something about PayPal echeck (wire transfer?) which i have not heard of. it's big amount so i'm a little paranoid and insisting on the regular PayPal so i can have some backup. if anyone's been through this or knows anything about this particular seller, please advise. thank you so much.

I usually pay with a credit card via paypal instead of an echeck so that if something goes wrong, I have paypal and visa to go through.

The first thing I'd be doing is posting the listing to this auction in the Authenticate This Prada thread and wait for confirmation that it is indeed a genuine Prada bag before buying or paying for it.

Right, if you pay with an e-check, it is simply an electronic check that comes out of your bank account in about 3 days. It is still done through PayPal, but you are not covered by a credit card unless you pay with a credit card in PayPal. Paying by credit card is much, much safer. Also, please do as imashopaholic suggested. Have that bag authenticated here to be sure it is an authentic Prada. I am not familiar with your seller, and she is probably an honest person, but be sure she has good feedback as a seller, also. These are just basic steps to buying a designer bag on eBay. I do these things every time I even think about purchasing an expensive bag on eBay. Just trying to keep you safe!

I would definitely get it authenticated here, and I also would be very hesitant to pay with any kind of wire transfer, money order, etc. That just leaves you very little protection as a buyer. PayPal has its problems, but if you use a PayPal account and pay with a credit card (NOT a debit card), then you have protection from PayPal, but also from your credit card company. Looking at the seller's listings, she does have the option of PayPal with a credit card listed.

thank you for your astute and kind responses. i did not follow the authenticate forum because i'm new to this and didn't really understand how it works! looked at some comments, but i guess the acid test will be to post pix after i get the bag. the eBay buyer has 100% approval and has sold many things, so i do feel comfortable about that. i also paid with PayPal credit card - switched from my debit to credit for that express purpose! *sigh* now i just have to wait for the bag, come back to the forum, and then, if all is well, figure out what if anything to do to treat this tres delicate object. i've read about the colors running. man, if this isn't a sad little addiction i've got going on! i suppose it could be worse...anyway thank you all so much again. i'll keep you posted.

just saw your little diagram: congratulations on the baby! will you switch from snappy handbags to snappy diaper bags?! i'm only partially kidding. i've seen some really cool diaper bags out there. or at least big old bags that are cool and would work as diaper bags. best of luck to you and your and thanks for taking the time to make a comment.

Thank you! I am actually in the process of trying to find the perfect diaper bag. It's been a bit of a project!
