Default Need education and advice -The Gaucho
Hi, the search function has been down for a while, and am I glad to find this thread.

I am usually at the Chanel forum, and I am thinking of getting my first Dior, the Gaucho!! (am i tooooo late? )

I love the antique look of it, especially the cream/off white color, thought it would be the best light color bag since it has the vintage/dirty look, I don't have to worry about babying it... am I right to think this way??

After looking at the numerous threads here, I notice there are a few types of Gauchos, and I 'll be very very happy if Dior experts here could help by providing some answers to my beginner's questions..

1. The tote: does this come with just a open top? any zipper? it looks huge and heavy to me...

2. The single flap: I think I love this the best, is this a single compartment flap? I hope it's easy to access and the opening is not too small. Also, can the strap be adjusted to different lengths?

3. The double saddle flap: I have the least idea on this design, does this work like a double compartment flap, or 2 flaps to 2 compartments? How does this work? I got a feeling it's difficult to access stuff in the bag.

Here are some pics of the design I like, can dear ladies here let me know what is the exact name to the design, and what is the best size to get, hopefully it is not a heavy bag ( I like the size of balenciaga City and Chanel 227).... Thank you so much ladies for reading this beginner's thread. .... I know I should have gotten this beauty in 2006. .. does Dior still produce the off white/cream in the store? or is it a seasonal thingy?

Thank you so much again ladies!!

first of all welcome to the club of gaucho maniacs LOL !

you are not too late, we have just discussed it recently and majority thinks gaucho is still in and on its way to become a quirky classic

Gauchos are very sturdy bags in general I treat my totes with cruelty and they hold up beautifully...the only danger with the off white colour is colour transfer, but if you dont wear new jeans with it you should be fine. Since the leather has a special wax finish, you cant use leather conditioners and so, just stick to baby wipes for general maintenance / care.

Off we go.

There are two sizes of totes, smaller one with magnetic closure and bigger one zipped all the way. Will dig out the dimensions for you a bit later. The smaller one is not big at all , perfect every day bag if you ask me, very similar to balenciaga city - just compared them and city is a tiny bit wider.

2. I think its a single compartment and yes the strap does adjust.

3. I dont like the double gaucho works and I never really got the drift how to, but its a bit overwhelming for me comparing to the medium and the flap is just so ..floppy LOL

The one that is on the pics is a medium off white gaucho shoulder bag. They are not produced any more but they are still available on www.dior.com depending on your location. Its not a heavy bag at all ! Not sure about the boutiques though...

more info

The double gaucho has a 29 inches long strap and the medium has 26 inches strap.

The bag sizes are - 15'' at widest x 9'' at tallest x 3'' deep for the medium and 14¼'' at widest x 9'' tall at center x 2½'' deep (of one compartment) for the double. Maybe go through Dior and celebrities thread and check for modelling pics?

if you click on zoom, you can choose a pic of a 5ft 6 silhouette modelling the double gaucho).

Oh my Dior Goddess to the rescue!!! Thank you so much Nataliam1976 .. you are just wonderful, thank you for all the info... I am so greatful, it'll take me some time to digest all these, I will definitely go through the threads that you posted here, and yes, once the search function is up, I'll be looking for more info....

The marroon color is so rich and yet vintage looking....yummy!! BTW, which is your fav. colour and fav. design for gaucho?
I think I am in trouble.... lol.... love all the oldish/vintage looking colours....

And the BlueFly 5'6" image (how lucky... I'm around this height).... i see that the bag dropped till waist level, can the strap be adjusted to a shorter length? like just below the armpit?

Thank you again Nat..

my favourite colours and shape on the pics enclosed

it can be adjusted to shorter length, dont know exactly how much but if you look closely there are a good few holes left to adjust on that modelling pic and the distance between each hole is about 2 cm . Kate Hudson dienfitely has some room for adjustment too.

I agree that the magnetic tote would be the closest in size and volume to a bal city. All the colors are gorgeous aren't they. They are relatively easy to keep clean, and aren't heavy. I have the tote size, and find it a pleasure to use and get in and out of - because you aren't having to unzip or open a flap to reach things.

I have a friend who has the single flap shoulder strap satchel - and she has used it virtually everyday for the last 2 years and abused it badly - and it still looks wonderful. If you are kind to your bags - this is one that should last forever.

Great info Nat! I actually have a question for you today :)

My gaucho seems to be really super dried out on the flap on the inside and there are some areas where it also shows signs of being on the very dried out side. Is there anything I can do or a Dior store that will condition it for me. Do you have any suggestions? TIA :P

Love gauchos, especially this style I just bought from Dior outlet, you should try there first before paying retail, but I don't remember them having the white if you are set on that color.

try using baby wipes daily, but if that doesnt help definitely contact Dior and ask what to do , I havent got a clue how the wax finish would act when treated with moisturizer, Im not trying myself
