I worked at Nordstrom in high school and during college breaks. The Half Yearly is usually 33% off or more. Typically, they mark down merchandise that is leftover from the Anniversary, some current seasonal items, and bring in some new merchandise. These are permanent mark downs, not promotional pricing. If it doesn't sell through, then they mark it down further after a few weeks before shipping it off to the Rack. They do not mark down nearly as much "basic, stock up items that rarely go on sale" as the Anniversary sale.

Am I the only one that thinks the Half Yearly sales usually suck? I haven't bought anything from them in years, and I used to WORK there. I couldn't even find anything to buy with the discount AND my additional 20%. I think the Nordies sales have really gone downhill over the past few years. I didn't get anything at Anniversary this year either.

Am I alone on this? :)

I do recall a few random cute items that I did like but were out of my price range, and maybe it's just the economy turning me into a frugal and bitter woman, and not Nordstrom! :) but for those few items it wasn't worth the money to me. Sure, I LOVED the $1000 handbag marked down to $600, but realistically, I don't feel like their sales really offered anything for the average consumer right now.

Hey everyone, I was at Nordstrom earlier today and spoke to one of the SA there. She informed me only certain merchandise are marked down.

Did anyone find out when the pre-sale actually starts? Is it this weekend?

My SA called yesterday morning but did not set up an appointment like we normally do. She just wanted to let me know when the sale started and mentioned a few items that would be on sale. She mentioned that there would be a few Eileen fisher pieces, then we laughed because I believe I have everything they carry in that line and the last release by Misook was not that attractive.

Have any of your SA's let you know about what handbags will be on sale?

I have to agree that Nordie's half year sale are never that good. They don't have many premium desinger items, and if they do, prices are not as good as Saks or Barney's. If it is for desinger items, Bloomingdale's have better deals. The only good thing about Nordie is their service.

Yeah, in the fall, the Premium Designer bags won't get marked down until a couple-few weeks after Half-Yearly. At least that's what I've noted from years past.

What do you think are the chances of cute skinny jeans being included in this half-yearly sale? I just got a $20 note from nordstroms and I bought some brown slouchy suede boots from DSW that I think would look cute with skinny jeans so I'm wondering if I should wait to check out if they will have any on sale!!

I believe last HYS the Bbags went down to $800 (the Cities and Day bags were originally $1200 that time). Unfortunately the coin purses were excluded though. At least that's what I remembered from my local Nordies.

I am hoping to find some clothes as xmas gifts at reasonable price. But knowing my closest Nordies (which is usually high end) I wont have any luck.

Too bad the Macy's F&F wont start till early December. Phooey.

Went by today to check what was going on sale. The shoe dept has already been cleared out of what will not be going on sale. Pretty empty. Mostly clearance stuff, she mentioned they did not bring any new items in for the sale.

Went to handbags, my SA was not working and talked to a new SA, really nice. She mentioned that Elliot Lucca and Nordstrom brand will be on sale, and some other but forgot. We walked over to the designer bags and talked to another SA, she mentioned that nothing in her area would be going on sale.

So that pretty much sums up Boca.

I talked to my SA's today and they said Nordstrom is not doing presale this year. But each department pretty much knows what will be on sale now, so you can talk to them and they can hold the items for you until next week. Premium designer bags will not be on sale until mid to late November though, and the % will be 40% off.
