Default Is there any good deal for LA fitness?

My friend and I went to LA fitness today to sign her up(I am already a member), and the sales person in there told us that the initiation(enrollment) fee is $200(wow!), and the monthly payment is around $30.

I think this monthly fee sounds ok, but to me, this $200 initiation fee doesn't make sense at all...(Why we need to pay extra money to "enroll"? I feel like this money directly goes into sales people's pocket as a labor of making a small document for us.)

Is there any way to avoid this initiation fee?

I asked him to add my friend as my family member so that she doesn't need to pay for the initiation fee, but he told us that he needs a proof of document which shows we are in the same address(sucks!).

Any advice would be really appreciated!! TIA!!

And....I am not sure this needs to be under 'Health&Fitness', so if it does, please move it..

That's total BS- find a friend who's already a member, they should be able to add 4 people to a single account. It's friends OR family, they don't have to be at the same address. You should be able to get no initiation for either of you if you go that route.

DH and I work out at LA Fitness. We signed up in January. They were pretty firm about the initiation fee with us too. I think we ended up paying $149 for the two of us, and we pay $39 a month with access to all of their clubs nationwide.

I've seen 24 hr fitness and Sports Club LA have deals where they reduce the intiation, but not LAF.

I workout at an LAF in Orange County, and they're having a Member Appreciation Day/Friends and Family event coming up. Maybe they'll have a special then?

They "dropped" the fee for us to $70 for both of us and we had the option to add more people for no intiation- it's supposed to ongoing, but they advertised it at our gym in Irvine in Jan and Feb.

It depends. Many gyms now are either jacking up the enrollment fee, or if they have low enrollment, then its a high monthly fee. 6 years ago when I joined LA fitness, i really wanted their platinum membership. I decided to get it but it was $399 enrollment, however i can go to any la fitness in the US, and 2 guests are always allowed with me, no matter who it is. Thats good because I don't like to wrkout, but I don't have to have the same person with me everytime!

My SO just signed up with LA fitness and that is not true from what they told us. He is allowed to add whomever he wants to his account and they will be waived the ridiculous enrollment fee. Perhaps you should try signing up with another associate?

at the la fitness near me they had some deal where it was like 600+ for one year and the next year was free. if you were to renew the membership during years 3+ it was like 300.

^yup, when I signed up several years ago all I had to pay was first and last month's dues, which were $29/mo. I would speak to another sales rep or tell them you didn't have to pay fees at 24 hour fitness/ballys if they won't take off the initiation fee...

Hey Desi!
I live in Atlanta, too, and go to LA Fitness. Which one do you go to? I go to Buckhead or Perimeter, but I mostly prefer Perimeter so I don't have to deal with the traffic.
Maybe we can meet up and be workout buddies. I need some encouragement sometimes! It's always easier to go if you are planning to meet a friend!
