Question Datecode vs. Purchase Date
A seller says her bag was purchased at an LV boutique in Paris; the receipt shows it was just purchased at the end of May. However, the datecode in the bag shows it was produced in early 2008. I know the datecode has nothing to do with when the bag is purchased, but normally shouldn't they be kind of close together? I'd imagine a bag bought at the store should have the datecode approx. 2-3 months+- before the purchase date? At least that's my experience with my stuff bought at the boutique.

Just wanted to know what your thoughts are. Could a bag be sitting on the shelf for over a year before it's sold?

TIA!

I've seen bags up to 3 years old at boutiques

More popular ones tend to have higher stock turnaround

Interesting, I didn't realize a bag would be in a store for that long before being sold. And we're talking about a Mahina here, which I thought is quite popular?

I just got my Mahina XS two days ago (I'm in Australia). Out of curiousity I just checked the date code (AR2008) and was a bit disappointed that it was made so long ago. But after seeing this thread it seems to be to be normal I guess.

Yeah...there can be 1 or 2 years difference between the date code and purchased date. My last retail bag was made in 08 but I got it just last spring.

It really depends on the style and also I have noticed that some buyers are really picky so they insist on buying the most current bag. Thus the older ones (but still pristine) are left behind.

Wouldn't it be nice if LV has sales for these bags or the ones with minor flaws on them?
