I got a Droid today at lunchtime. It is definitely a solid (and slightly heavy) phone but it is AWESOME so far! I love it!!!

I played with one today. I thought it was pretty nice. I didn't think it was too heavy or bulky but then I use an iPhone on a normal basis.

I haven't looked much into it, but I got an email yesterday about it. What's so special about it? I mean... VZW got permission from the Star Wars people to name it the Droid! It's got to extra special then, haha!

-It's relatively thin; just a bit thicker than the iPhone.
-It's the first phone to run on Android 2.0 software, which is open-development (the iPhone isn't).
-The graphics are amazing, it has a WGVA resolution of 480 x 854, and a 3.7" screen.
-5.0 mp camera with flash.
-Slide out keyboard in addition to an Android virtual keyboard.
-Integrated with Google, so it has Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Maps, which is amazing (I don't have the car dock yet though).
-Can be used with a desktop cradle/charger (also haven't purchased it yet), which turns it into a multimedia station.

Those are my favorite features of it

What exactly is Android software/open development? I think that might make it clear to me why it's getting so much buzz, haha.

It pretty much means that users can change and improve the software and redistribute it in modified forms. Android software "allows developers to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries" (stolen from Wikipedia). Apple doesn't allow for open-development, so the iPhone doesn't have it.

Sorry, I'm still sort of confused. So, any developer can use the open source codes, etc. to write applications freely without going through a middleman?

Im locked into my IPhone plan for another year, afterwards I will be looking into this phone.
I love the fact that it has a bigger screen and a great camera with flash.
I don't text so the keyboard doesn't matter..
anyway..there's a good chance that Ill be switching over when it can be used globally.

I wish all cell phones were a little bit bigger..

ShoeFanatic - I've actually read that the camera isn't so great, people were expecting a little more.

yea i've also heard there are some issues with the camera, but i think they are saying that it just needs a fix through an update so i think there are still some high hopes for it in the future.

I got my droid on friday. The keyboard isn't that bad, but I wish there was a little space above the top row...makes those buttons a little harder to use. Also, having to hit Alt before a number on the physical keyboard is annoying, but def workable!
