Wink New LED tv
Does anyone own one? Is it worth paying extra for the LED tvs?
TIA

my friend and her husband have a samsung LED. it's pretty nice but they're already had to have some panels replaced on it and they bought it in june or july. For what they paid for it i don't think having to have it fixed so soon is worth it. but i was amazed at how thin they are.

^^Do you mean that they have had to have the panel replaced multiple times? It should only have 1 panel.

One of the biggest advantages to LED LCDs are that they pull way less power than a standard flat panel tv, with a normal LCD you can physically feel the heat coming off of them with an LED you don't. They are incredibly thin, and the picture should give a truer color than a regular LCD (you'll hear a lot of people say a blacker black to describe this feature).

to me the LED TV's look weird, Movies look more like documentaries. They are good for New, Sports, and Video games but NOT Movies or regular TV in my opinion.

it's the first time they've had the panel replaced. I was just going off what my friend said to me and i thought she said they were getting two panels replaced. but she was probably wrong.

I guess they were told that that's a common problem with either the samsung led or led's in general? (unsure) - which makes me wonder why you would spend that much on a tv if it's going to have that sort of problem. if they didn't have the extended service they would be screwed. and they spent at least $3k on the tv.

^^It is possible that your friends had to have the diffuser panel and lcd panel replaced. I wonder if they bought one of the first Samsungs that came out and that is why theirs has so many problems? I see very few of the newer models get returned but as with most technology the first batch is usually not very efficient.

OP- If you have the money to spend or don't mind waiting for them to drop a little in price I would go with an LED provided that you like how the picture looks. Your best bet would be to go into a store that sells them and has them in a smaller room (studio) that only has 1 tv per wall so that you aren't distracted by all of the other images on the other tvs and see if you like the picture or not.

^^ that's possible. i do remember my friend saying that at the time they bought it, her husband had been waiting for it to come out so they may have gotten one of the first ones. I think they actually got about 4 different price adjustments on it because each week it went down in price quite a bit.

the picture is pretty amazing but i'm pretty satisfied with my 46" sony lcd :) and it only cost me a little over $1k

just some advice if anyone goes and buy ones (or any tv for that matter) - check out your stores price adjustment policy.

my friends bought their led tv and within the next month they were able to get about $1000 back from it because the price kept going down every week.
