thanks shu - that's a lot of great information.

you can delete individual texts on the iphone now (versus the whole thread) but still can't delete one number from your call log.

i want to wait until the 9700 comes out since it doesn't have the track ball...so i have some time to think about it. i'll also have to go into the store to play around with the bb.

thanks again!!!!

Really?? I think I'm going to stick with my bb for now and hopefully in a year or so, Apple will make more improvements and then I'll go back.

I should also say that there is an enhanced version of GMail that allows you to star messages and also groups them by sender. If you don't have it, try sending service books or if all else fails, delete the account and re-add it.

Yup, I have the enhanced gmail. That is one feature that trumps the iphone since it does group your messages. But the gmail only syncs one way and from what I've read, that is true for many people and is due to gmail using something called IMAP IDLE?? I'm not tech saavy enough to know the difference between IMAP and IMAP IDLE.

Thumbs up BlackBerry 8900 + iPod Touch 2G
I have been using blackberries for years and absolutely love them.

My current bb, the BlackBerry 8900, is the perfect communication device for me. Crystal clear unlimited calls, lightning-fast push email, unlimited texting. I use Opera Mini for faster browsing (than the default browser) but I still find that some sites aren't accessible so I can't really use the browser(s) as a computer for everything. I usually have my mini-laptop with me but sometimes it isn't convenient to whip it out, for example, during lunch or maybe while waiting in line at the bank. A lot of times when I would be browsing on my bb, I would get a phone call and whatever I was doing would be interrupted.

Now I also carry around an iPod Touch (which is basically an iPhone without the phone and camera) and I can work online wherever I am while keeping my blackberry free for texts, calls and emails. I never considered getting an iPhone because, well, I'm a BlackBerry girl, but also, AT&T service doesn't work well in our area. I can never hear people who call me from AT&T phones so I ask them to text me instead.

This combo is seriously the best of both worlds -- the perfect communication device paired with a great media device with an awesome browser (basically a micro-mini-laptop!). A lot of people don't want to be bothered with carrying two devices, but it really isn't an issue -- after all, this is the PURSE FORUM and we all carry purses, right? And having two separate device actually works better for me.

I am looking forward to T-Mobile's launch of the Bold 9700 but I don't know if I actually need to upgrade to the 9700. I have to try out the trackpad first and then make a decision.

The new OS seems to have solved a couple of my gripes. Text messages are all lumped by name now, even if you send back to back texts to the same person - it will not result in a new thread.

Also, there is the option to input two mobile numbers, add a nickname, etc.

Improvements are coming, yay!

Hi all you blackberry pros -
I am looking for some opinions on if the bb is right for me. I need a new phone, and keep looking at the bb as an option. I have the LG Voyager right now and HATE the thing. I never want a touch screen again. I text quite a bit, and I dont want a phone that flips open to have to text, like my Voyager does. I dont regularly check email from my phone, nor do I get online much with it, I use my Touch for that. Do I HAVE to buy a data plan in order to have a bb? Can I keep my current calling and texting plan, and then add on data later if I ever choose to use that feature?
TIA!

With Verizon, they force you to purchase the data package, which is $30 a month. On most other carriers, you can have the option to add it or not. To be honest, if you don't use email or internet, I'd suggest you get a different phone. I know 99% of people who buy BBs do so because they can communicate easily.

If you already sync GMail accounts to your BB, just have the Service Books sent and there should be a link to DL the enhanced version.

Well, I am with Verizon, so thats pretty lame that Id have to go with a data package - I had it with my Voyager and hardly ever used it so shut it off. But
I text a lot, so wanted the keypad that the bb provides, and its on the outside of the phone - not many are - I find its such a pain to open my stupid phone to text someone, I want to just pick it up each time and go with it. I also didnt mention, I do take a lot of pix with my phone, and really liked the quality of them on the bb, as well as the OS on it - was so much easier for me to use. Id like the option of using the internet when I"m out, but dont need it too often. So far, the bb is the only phone that looks to have the convenient features I want....but am open to suggestions.

You could always try a slider or another with a full keyboard. Here's a list of the phones with QWERTYs that Verizon sells: http://www.verizonwireless.com:80/b2...a+smartphones#
