Wash your Coach in Washing Machine?

A friend of mine put her summer patchwork bag in the washer, and it died a very quick death. I'm guessing she just threw it in and then dried it. It's kind of wrinkly now and lost most of its shape. It looks horrible. If only she would have spent the $$ at the dry cleaners first.
