Default Small Moral Coach Dilemma

I've got a strange moral dilemma here. A friend was unloading her Coach stuff to a consignment shop and gave me first pick. I immediately went for the metallic Mia hobo (the large one, the one that was a limited edition a few years ago). It's spectacular. I wasn't sure how much to offer her (she had bought it at factory, so paid like $300 or so for it), and threw out the number $100. She agreed, but as we discussed she thought she should look at what they went for on eBay. Well, they go for like $600 (something I noticed, nothing that she pointed out). I love the bag but would never pay that much. A bit of background: as a Coach SA I have gotten things for her on discount (totally okay by the rules). Am I taking advantage of her do you think with that price? Or considering that I've helped her purchase with my discount in the past does it all kind of even out?

I'm leaning toward all evening out, but wanted outside opinions.

I defintely think it evens out. Is she still okay with that price? Or does it seem like she wants more for it now?

So, has the deal been sealed? With Coach, prices can range from very high to very low. I went to the Yorkdale sale and got brand new bags from $300 to $500+ for $49 each even just from the previous season. If she needs the money and the consignment store is going to pay her that amount then I think it's okay.

I am sure she would remember all the deals you gave her through that time.

If you are still talking it over, she may suggest some other prices. It sounds like the cost is still on the table.

I am not sure. One hundred dollars is a tad bit on the low side, maybe $150 is decent. I dunno. I am a bargain shopper but I do feel a bit nervous asking friends to sell their stuff to me...money issues between friends is always a bit tricky.

Good luck in your decision and I hope you both are happy with whatever transaction arises.

Take care,

Why don't you ask her about what you've written here?

Maybe she's OK with your offer and if she isn't she'll probably tell you when asked. Especially since you think there's a balance between your offer and how you've helped her over the years.

Seems like a fair offer, if you're both in agreement.

hmmmm i dunno is she hard up 4 dough?...if she is then i'd ask her if 100.00 gonna be enough if not then u can go up but not over like 200.00 since it's used...but if she doesn't really need the cash then stick with the original amount...i love a deal but my good heart won't let me get over on a friend you know....

She took them to the consignment shop because she doesn't have the time to eBay (and plus she's had some problems with them). I figure I've saved her a good $500 in Coach purchases over the last two years or so (two bags, two pairs of shoes and sunglasses). And she told me she'd tell me if she wanted more (she's good about being direct about these things). So I don't think I'm taking her over (and never would I do that to anyone).

I think if she is ok with the price and doesn't want to hassle with eBay (which is about the only place she could sell used for $600), then you both are getting what you want. If she is ok, then you aren't pulling the wool over her eyes or anything!

If you had saved me over $500 on coach goodies, plus you were my good friend...I'd be ok with you getting a deal too. I offer my used coach bags to my friends/family who can't afford them new at prices well below eBay before I put them up for sale because I'd rather see them happy with it than a stranger.

I think that's totally fair considering the circumstances - in my experience she won't actually net much from the resale shop - the regular resale shops usually take 50% of the sales price and they don't price used bags all that high. I just dropped off some things that won't sell well on eBay and a large Kate Spade Tote in excellent condition but used that I paid $350 for is priced at $100 of which I'll get $50 when it sells!

I would level with her and let her know that it's up to her. You want to continue to have a good relationship with her regardless of whether or not you buy it from her.

I can understand your situation and why you are seeking second opinions...and hey, that's what were here for, right? Well, that and enabling, lol...and in this case we get to do both at the same time. I say go for it as the deal sounds very fair to me given your friendship history and enjoy the bag when you get her!

I would advise her that she could probably get a lot more for it on Evilbay and suggest that if she wanted to try that first and see what happens and if she cant get a decent price for it there then you are interested in buying it.....
I myself personally would extend that offer/idea to her as an option.
She might not be aware that she could get a decent price for it. (even though she has had problems there in the past IMO it would be worth listing it to see)

As far as the consignment shop thing goes she probably wont get as much for it there as Suzzeee had mentioned.

If I were her I would rather see it go to a freind, especially one that has hooked her up over the years.
Then again if it were my purse I would probably just give it to you outright as a thank you.
Thats just me though....

I think it evens out too. And it sounds like she is totally happy with that price. I'd rather see a bag with a friend, especially one that has been nice enough to let me benefit from her discount in the past.
