The release says "Exclusive to you in your city" so maybe Hyutzel's was the only store in Ann Arbor to carry the coat?

What an incredible find! May I ask if you got it at a good price, like $1,381 or less?

There may also be Cashin's sketches and other images of the coat in the archives. Wonderful find!

Inflation Calculator results:
"$380.00 in 1978 had the same buying power as $1,380.92 in 2012. Annual inflation over this period was 3.87%."

That is amazing that you were able to find that!!! Such history and heritage. This coat definitely has a story. I wonder what it'd say?!

I usually ignore the NWOT description if the pictures don't match. I have also gotten items that really look new when the sellers have described them as used.
Sometimes NWT also means used! One time at Macy's I spotted a Parker leather clutch with the chain strap (13621) in graphite. I asked see it and then I had to point out to the SA that it was used. She was shocked and asked "why do you say that?!" and I said "because the previous owner left stuff in it!" There was an odd button and a small candy wrapper in the bottom of the bag!

My really beat up Whitney bag was also one that was already in the salvage box and I pulled it out said i wanted it so they priced it 5 dollars. It cleaned up pretty nicely. Love that bag.

It was exciting to find the press release and photo in the archives and I am sure that having that type of documentation and provenance adds to the vintage value of the coat. I can't believe that you got it for $3 - that is an incredible find! Wow!

What is the condition of the coat? Does it need any restoration? Nice find!

Again, yay for badly listed items! I'm glad yours worked out. Of course, that's how I got my fake little Rambler's Legacy. I have to say when I pulled it out of the package I ooh'd at the nice soft leather, but it didn't hold up to scrutiny, it's not as well done as the Taft. I'll post it in the authenticate thread before I "deface" it, but the stitching issues alone are enough to condemn her, and there are a couple other questionable things about that bag. I now have a navy original Rambler and I'll keep the "little one" around for awhile to see if I need it. What finally convinced me not to trash it was a cute little picture of someone wearing one...darn it.

And I agree it hardly seems worth it to use such quality materials on a fake bag. I can see the profit potential in a fake siggy bag but some of these old leather styles can't make as much money. Of course they're saving a fortune on overhead, street corner vs luxury store.

And I truly did luck out on that kiss lock tote! When I saw how much she marked it down I had to re-read the entire listing, double check the seller didn't have other issues the first time around, and once I was satisfied, I swear my hands were shaking when I hit the BIN! What if someone else gets it before me! I <3 that bag too!

And speaking of $79 deals, I don't know if any of you saw the used Amethyst Bridget on eBay? It was obviously used, but darn if wasn't the color I was looking for at a price I could justify. So I snagged it. I can't believe NO ONE else bid, I figured someone would sneak in a bid and at least raise it to the $80's somewhere. So I got it today and I really like it. It has hangtags, care card, and dustbag. There is a little wear on the piping which was disclosed, so used a little BlackRocks on just the back side to see how it looked, and it helped a lot:

Here's a comparison shot, the conditioned side is obviously on the right:

That's after it "soaked in" for a couple of hours. I'm very happy with it for the price I paid. So many times I end up settling for not quite the color I wanted when I pick up something like this, but this is my first choice. See how preeetty she is?

Now this is what I call a beautiful PURPLE bag! You win!

$3.00 ????? Yikes...I was ooh-ing and aah-ing over the pics, but thought I'd read ahead a little before I posted a comment. Glad I waited...great find...and so happy it didn't end up in a landfill! Best of luck with your slim-down plan :) Stay inspired!

Too Many Pink Bags
So, remember my Camel Spectator Court bag with no strap? I've been keeping an eye out for either a white or camel strap to go with it. White would be correct, but camel should work. Either way, I have a chain strap that works really well and a white strap that kind of works but is too short to wear cross body

Anyway, when I was searching, I came across this Willis, that looked like it might be camel. I mean, ideally I would find a bag I loved that I could switch the straps back and forth between:

Classic Coach Willis

It's not really Camel though, or at least not the same shade, but it's kind of cool. So I'm back to the chain strap, but I thought I'd share the pix of the bag. :)

I love my little kisslock bag. I'm sure you will be able to at least camouflage that ink. What a great find!

I got lucky at the Savers Thrift Store today. I found a cute purple MFF swingpack in immaculate condition (it still has the Coach leather care card inside) for $14! It was marked $20 but they were having a sale!
