Default For the Coachies who own leather bags

Hello all! I just recently got into buying all leather Coach bags and need some info/advice on how to take very good care of it. I already apple'd it and sprayed it but would like to know how you all store yours? I usually store all my bags in their dustbags and in their own Coach box but i realized it may not be good to store the all leather Coach bags in the box because they need to breath. I learned that the hard way cause my whiskey legacy shoulder bag was in its dustbag in its box and after a few weeks stored in there the color looked dull and was not how it looked when i first bought it. Anyway, i'm mainly asking about the vintage leathers since those are the ones i have. Do you guys store them just in their dustbags and leave it out or leave it out of its dustbag? I also heard it might not be good to leave it out all exposed because it might age the leather quicker? (not too sure what that means i read it somewhere here) Or is that a different type of leather?...all this leather stuff is making my head spin haha. TIA!!

Well, I guess everyone has their own ideas on this, but this works for me.I always apple them (love the stuff!), and i stuff them w/the paper they came with, put them in a dustbag, and then put them in a Coach box for storage. I have them stacked up in my closet. They seem fine. I dont know about the whole leather having to breathe thing, but I also try to rotate bags twice a month of so, so they all get a chance to come out to play and arent kept locked up tight for long stretches. I have many Legacy bags and they are all doing well this way. Good luck with your new leather additions - I have two signature bags, but otherwise I'm all about the leather!!

thanks donnalynn!! good to know the legacy bags are doing good when stored in a boxed. maybe it was my eyes messing with me when i took out my whiskey bag and looked at the color. i think i'm more worried about the whiskey color. the others i'm not too worried about.

You're welcome! I have a whiskey Leigh stored that way and its just fine, but maybe yours need extra care. I think the leather pieces on all of the Legacy bags are very random - some are normal, some are pebbly, some grainy - some of my bags are a combination of all of the above!

I stuff mine with coach paper and put in their dustbags then they just sit on top of my cedar chest in my closet. I don't put them in boxes but I do have lots of hanging clothes near them so the air probably doesn't circulate around my bags as well as it should. They are fine, though. I get them out and check on them often. They're all apple'd up and I do that about 3 times a year.

I stuff mine so they keep their shape. They're stored in their dustbag, then put in my closet.

I pretty much do the same except for the box thing. It really depends on your environment as to how well the leather survives, and this can be exclusive of how you store it. Some environments are generally very dry, which can cause drying out and cracking of the leather, and other environments are too humid, which can cause the leather to mold. My friend had all her stuff mold just sitting in the closet because she had a basement apt that was a bit too damp, and then I've seen other people store bags in boxes, and the piping and leather around the handles cracked from it drying out too much. I do think rotating bags more frequently helps the longevity, and at least that way you are more in tune with how the leather feels and looks (before it's too late).

Personally, I would hesitate to store my bags in boxes, and definitely not plastic tubs because I fear they will dry out. If you find this is a problem, then I would just store them in the dust bags (which allow them to be covered but still breathe), and then put them on closet shelves. I do fully stuff mine to keep their shape, because even just sitting there, they can sag, etc. I use printed pics that I tape on the shelf where each bag is so that I know which one is which. Otherwise I would be searching for days, lol! I've never had a problem, and I think as long as you are aware of what type environment you have in your house and monitor your items periodically, you will be ok. Just Apple them up when you feel they are dry!

I keep mine stuffed, in dustbags, in boxes, but I am thinking of putting them back on shelves in just dustbags. Only thing I will do differently than BagLady39 is attach the pics directly to the dustbags with a safety pin or string instead of taping to the shelf.

I don't know if it is true because I just keep my bags in the dust bags in the closet (no boxes) but I did hear from an LV sa that the leather or canvas can crack if they are stored in the box with no air for a long time.

Thanks ladies!! This helps me a lot. I'm thinking of taking out the leather ones of the boxes and just leaving the signature ones in. I too stuff all my bags so it wouldn't lose its shape.
