Do you know yours? Bonnie Cashin worked for Coach from 1962 (when she launched the women's line) to 1975. She retired in 1985. I don't believe she ever worked for Hermes.... but I could be wrong.

These are all bags that are SIMILAR to the Birkin, but NOT look-alikes, and all are from great designers...

The Birkin

The Mulberry Bayswater

The Louis Vuitton Steamer

The Ralph Lauren Ricky Bag

The New Coach bag

SO... I guess if a bag is tote like in appearance, with a flap over the top, with straps or a lock of some sort holding it down then OBVIOUSLY it is a Hermes look-alike...lol
I mean duh, right? (sticks nose up in air)

But seriously, thanks for the great examples, louislover. Couldn't agree with you more!

I find that bolded statement interesting b/c your username is louislover! But I don't really know you and haven't researched your posts, so I can't really make a judgement! Just an observation lol

I think the Coach bag is gorgeous and I couldn't care less that it "looks like" something else.. Hermes, Mulberry, or whatever else. There are tons of bags that look like that.. does Hermes own copyright for the basic shape

Nobody freaked out when Coach came out with the Signature Stripe "speedy" .. or the Heritage Speedy shaped bag...

Default That's good research and history of the bag.

Quoting LouisLover260"The designs are never BORING and redundent like LV."
I don't think I'd ever see these words uttered by LL260, but that's interesting and I agree that Coach does have more variety than other namebrands even on a higher pay scale.

I have a 2007 and earlier Hampton Tote and they look similar enough that I can see the resemblance to the previous versions to not think Hermes Birkin.

I agree that Coach makes so many different styled bags and the quality is unsurpassed. I've actually seen a Miu Miu bag sold at Holt Refrew's and saw a small tearing on the bottom. In other words, more expensive doesn't mean better or stronger quality and the Miu Miu was marked down from $1,600+ to $892 and I'd never buy it--especially with a bad tear on the bottom of the bag.

I like it and now this thread makes me wanna pull out by black Hampton tote to take to work today.

Take care,

Thanks for your defense and rebutal louislover260. You made a great point. I actually didn't know the Birkin style and shape was also made by Mulberry and Ralph Lauren. You learn something everyday!

Also in response to luvhautecouture about louislover260's username...a lot of tPFers, upon registering and selecting a username, first come to tPF only knowing one or two handbag designers. I only loved Coach when I discovered this forum 2 years ago. But in that time, I've learned about new designers and now love many other than Coach. Just because someone has LV in their username, doesn't mean they can only love LV.

tPF is a friendly and welcoming community. Let's please keep it that way.

^^Lunatwinkle: Yeah, I agree many people seem to keep a devotion to a particular brand and LV is a really great name. We all choose certain names we regret. I wished I chose a different login name myself.

I am happy that LouisLover260 loves Coach and is confident to admit his preference for Coach. I would never criticize him for his choice of name. I have seen LV and I agree that they have limited styles that I have seen for years. Still, it's a classic design.

Other TPFers and has inspired me in many ways to think of accessorizing and adding to my collection. I am definitely appreciating the Hamptons collection more since my first purchase to the Coach brand was a Hampton's Swingpack.

Take care,

I hope that people just enjoy the bag, and people that buy it, get a lot of use out of it.
I don't really care for the Birkin on myself and have loved Hermes for many other reasons throughout my lifetime.

I will say, though, that for those of you pink lovers out there....how else can you get a bag that looks in this shape (or any others) in shades like fuchsia, rose shocking, cyclamen, and on into the purples of prune, raisin...and turquoises....

I think I prefer this Coach version, actually. It looks easier to get into, and those flaps that extend on each side of the straps on the Mulberry and Hermes versions would drive me nuts.
