Default Question about returns...

Don't worry, this isn't the standard "will Coach take this back" question.

Here's what I'm asking: my brother bought some items for me at the outlet near him. They are now with me. He's sending me the receipt. If I take everything, new with the tags and the receipt to the Coach store - will they ask for HIS card to put the money back on? Does HE have to be the one returning it? What will happen if I try?

I don't want store credit (don't have a purse I want right now and would much rather have the money) so that's not an option for me.

They always ask me for my credit card so I would say yes. They put the money back on the original card or give you store credit.

They always asked for my CC and ID when I do a return.

Well that sucks. I guess I *will* have to try to sell this stuff on eBay then, because shipping it back to him would make me lose out even more money (I had to pay for shipping to get to me first) and I probably won't be seeing him for maybe a few more months.

Sigh. I'm kinda mad at myself now.

I know some stores will let you put it back on the same "type" of card. (As in putting it back on a visa if paid by visa no matter which one you paid with.)

I would call and ask, but any time I have ever done a return with Coach (and believe it not, I haven't done it but a handful of times!), they have asked for the specific card. They might put it on a diff card, but I would say that's more likely if it's one of your own cards, and not somebody else's.

I had purchased some items (not Coach) and put them on my credit card. Then I was informed by the credit card company that my card number was stolen so they cancelled that card and issued me a new one. I needed to return an item I had purchased on my old credit card. It took a lot of convincing to have the store credit my new credit card number. Good luck!

No just call him when you are in the store and get his CC number for them to credit.

I believe that if you purchase something in a Coach outlet store and return it to a Coach boutique, they only issue store credit. Here is a link to the return policy printed on Coach.com

Oh that's a good idea. I might call my Coach store and ask if that's possible once I get the receipt from my brother.

You can sell store credit on eBay? I dunno, I think I'd lose out though, right? I mean, for example, if I got back $200 in store credit... people wouldn't bid $200, they'd bid less than that, right?

To answer an earlier question, you HAVE to have the original CC to put the money on. In a full price store you can only get a store credit for returns from the outlet. And if I was bidding on a store credit on eBay then I would want to bid less than the credit amount.

Isn't store credit the only option when doing an outlet return to a boutique?
If so, the point is moot...they won't need any credit card as they will be issuing a mdse store credit.
