I have set out to buy a basic go-to pair of CL's the few times I've gone shopping at the boutique and.... I've fallen for & subsequently purchased something more fun instead each time. I love my random CL's and shockingly seem to easily find ways to wear them, and I have yet to regret not opting for something more traditional.

So here I am (again) looking at purchasing a basic black shoe for my birthday next week. I'm looking at the Altadama and the LP. However (doph!).... I've already managed to get my eyes stuck on black spikes.

Question for those who have spikes and those who have ever contemplated spikes.... do you see these as a super-versatile shoe? Could I wear them with just about anything I could wear a basic black heel with?

Should I finally get my basic black... or succumb to my spike-ish desires?

I'm a lot like you- I always go for fun pairs when I buy Louboutins instead of something basic. My thinking is, when Louboutin makes such amazing fun shoes, why go for something basic? Any designer can make a good basic pair of heels, but no one makes gorgeous heels quite like Louboutin! Louboutin makes one of the best spike heels out there, so you should definitely get spikes! You can always get a basic pair anytime. You can certainly wear black spike shoes with anything you can wear regular black heels with- they are quite versatile.

i just got a pair of black spikes- i do also own a pair of black NS..but louboutin spike is pretty unique. like FUMI said everyone makes a basic black pump, even nine west.

it all depends on your louboutin style. do you buy styles you want to wear everyday or do you buy pairs for outings and nights out?

I think the spikes can be casual or dressed up! They would be a very versitile shoe that would easily go from day to night!! I think they would be awesome with a pair of skinnies or a nice dress!! Go for THE SPIKES!!!

I'm not a basic black purse or shoe gal, so when I spend big bucks for a purse or shoes, I want it to feel and look special. Thus, most of my CLs are non-classic colors or exotics. So if spikes have caught your fancy, then get the spikes!! That being said, the first basic black pumps I've bought in over a decade were CLs...Corneille..because they were comfy yet still sexy. And I'm adding black patent Pigalles for the same reason (well, not so much comfort, more for the sexy look). So I'd say try on the other styles even if they aren't spikey; some styles, like the Lady Peep, are Wow shoes even in basic black.

I say go for the spikes, they aren't so trendy that they'll go out of style and they can really add to an outfit! I also think they're quite versatile - they could go with pretty much anything

I'm against the LP lol I think I remember you asking how they were compared to Bianca 140, I just received them in error and there's a noticeable difference in walk ability IMO

It depends on what purpose you're buying them for.

I have a conservative side to me as well as a more extravagant style.
I like my classic black Louboutins for some formal dinners/events with colleagues, very casual work days, and when doing everyday errands.
I do NOT wear my Louboutins for regular working hours in the office or hospital.
When it's non-professionally related, and I'm going out in my personal life, then I bring out my fancier shoes.

Personally, I have had issues with spikes and I'm boycotting against them. As for LPs, they're not easy to walk in... So I would go for something more simple, classic, and comfortable like the ADs, especially since your other pairs are less practical.

Spikes, the answer will ALWAYS be spikes, when in comes to CL ... lol for me at least

Another vote for spikes you can always get a classic later if you still want one.

I agree with Funmi. I am biased though because I love spikes!
