Default Replica Paraty at Target?
So I was grocery shopping at Target when on the way out I noticed a bag that looked exactly like the Paraty. The quality was terrible and truly a far cry from the real handbag's elegance. It's a shame Target had to take away from the Paraty's prestigious image.

Yes, I saw this bag too! They had both the shopper style and the hobo style, and both were in really bright, faux-snake, thin vinyl. They were absolutely hideous!

I also saw a knock-off at The Limited. This one was black, shopper style, and I can't remember if it was faux-snake, but it looked pretty nice actually.

Ick, right? Come on Target, you guys do some cute things, no need to make copy-cat 'knock-off' bags... This isn't the first time they've done copy-cats of popular styles, but I can't really think of an example off the top of my head.

I hate replica's, especially bad ones! I saw a Paraty replica somewhere, all I remember is I was in a rush and flew right by it. It was ugly, that's all I can remember. And it wasn't at Target.

I believe that most of the time, people just don't know any better. I bought a 'copy-cat' Kooba bag once - not a counterfeit, but an unknown designer ripped off a Kooba design - and years ago I also bought a 'copy-cat' of a Coach design, not knowing any better. Even well-known designers rip off each other on occasion!!

I can understand that Target would like to bring cutting edge designs to the masses, and I also know that their version of the Paraty isn't a stitch for stitch copy, but (this is coming from a Target lover) I wish they'd have a little more integrity and come up with original designs and not something that's so obviously - "this is a copy of Chloe bag, no doubt."

I agree, I don't think most people know it's a copy of the Chloe Paraty. The average consumer is not as up on these things as us bag-obsessed ladies (as SO always likes to point out)!

I agree with the posts stating that most people wouldn't know a Chloe from any other designer. All of us here know it as a Paraty copy, but most people that shop at Target just buy bags because they like them.

Haha too true. I'm just glad I can rant to my fellow understanding bag addicts.

I agree. Many designers sell bags that are currently "fashion trends" which are often very "similar" to other well known designers' creations. Quite a few European imports reflect the current fashion trends and are often well made of good quality leather. As with most designs, everything eventually trickles down to all different price points.

^Too true. It's important to remember that not everyone can afford the designer model, and many people don't care. Target's bag isn't a knock-off in the strict sense - I'm sure it doesn't have "Chloe" on it anywhere.

All chain stores send their stylists/buyers to the fashion shows to check out what the current trends are so that they can replicate them for the masses. Without even knowing it, I'm sure many of you are currently wearing shirts/jeans/jackets/shoes that have come from chain stores or smaller designers that have been inspired by a high fashion house's design.

I'm alright with designs trickling down into the everyday market - there's a big difference between marketing a lookalike style and the downright fakes that we all hate here.
