Default Paddy owners- zipped or unzipped?

So I have just purchased my first paddy. Yay! I am having issues with the zippers though. I unzip to get my wallet, they come undone at the ends and are a royal PITA to have to do up again. It takes 2 hands. So, how do you use your Paddy? Zipped, unzipped? Is there a trick?

Ummm - no trick really. I know it is a pain but I look past that because they are just so BEAUTIFUL! Lots of times I keep mine undone but I do worry about pick pockets!

If you are talking about the classic satchel style - I never really zip my closed. Just flip the padlock over - using the outer slip pockets are great for keys and phone - things you need to get to easily - makes for less hassle getting in and out.

I also have a front pocket - this one I DO zip closed or else the padlock seems to slouch itself inside the bag and can't be seen - and bag looks like it's eating itself!

I do exactly as daisyrockyrosie does. Much easier. I just make sure I have it close to me all the time in case I come across itchy fingers!

There was a tip from someone on this forum (I can't remember who) about the best way to deal with the zippers.

I do what they suggested as I find it's easiest - zip up one side, and put the leather hook over the metal plate then padlock it up, so you have one zipper sealed shut with the padlock.

Then the other side you can unzip as far as you need to get things out of your bag, and you've got the leather tab between the metal plate and the padlock preventing if from chipping too much :)

I hope that explains it....

Absolutely unzipped. I just throw the lock tab straight over the opening and that kind of shuts everything. I haven't noticed that the zippered bits gape or anything, and it really is the easiest way!

I think when I first start out I try to keep it zipped, but within a few hours, it is too much work, so then it stays unzipped.

zipped, it is annoying I know! I got mine right before I got pregnant so I haven't carried it much (too heavy).

Unzipped -- like the others who have posted already, I just flip the padlock over the top & it stays closed. In fact, I've carried my bag in the rain and snow like this and NOTHING inside every got wet. The padlock is heavy enough to keep the bag closed and there's no way anyone's getting inside w/o you knowing it.

this is a great thread! I have been wrestling with this question myself since I got a front pocket paddy.

I have been going unzipped entirely and just flipping the lock over as some others have said they also do, but I will definitely try the one-side zipped w/ leather tab thru padlock suggestion!

haha, I may have got the suggestion off of a post you made then!

Thank you for it, I love wearing my paddies this way as it doesn't damage the hardware and the bag is still easily usable
