Chloe has been around since 1952; so there have been a lot of bags produced in that time! However, many of the earlier bags were made from fabrics such as silk-satin; as leathergoods weren't produced, regularly, until 2002.

Here's a potted history of the house:

1921.....Gaby Aghion is born in Alexandria, Egypt, on the 3rd March.
1945.....Gaby moves to Paris.
1952.....Gaby creates Chloe.
1953.....Gaby forms a partnership with Jacques Lenoir.
1956.....Chloe's first fashion parade (at the Cafe de Flore, Boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris).
1957.....Gerard Pipart is hired as a designer.
1964.....Christiane Bailly and Maxime de la Falaise work for Chloe.
1965.....Karl Lagerfeld joins Chloe.

This is a reply from someone in the purse forum asking me to post here to see if someone can authenticate this bag. Tell me what is it worth,what the style is etc. etc.
wattzat8 - Hi there - thanks for the additional photos. To be honest, I really have NO idea on this bag. The wording 'Maroquinerie' translated from French to English means 'leather working' literally. So its not saying its made in say Italy - as Chloe bags generally are - although they are now made in several locations including Romania, Bulgaria etc. If this is authentic - then I have to assume its an old bag - the heatstamps and the engraving would lead me to believe that. Also the lack of any serial/date tag which may have been in an inner pocket or at a seam - would point towards this being an old bag - although in fairness I can't say whether or not it is authentic.

Perhaps one of our members who have some vintage bags will be able to shed some light on this. Also - I will have a look and do a bit of digging to see if I can come up with anything for you, and do promise to get back to you.

As I say - do post in the Vintage section - you may find someone who is aware of this bag, although I can't guarantee it. It can be difficult with the older bags - as not so many of the girls have them or have ever seen them etc., but I will do some checking - and I will get back to you.

I am posting this here as opposed to ATC, as I believe this is a vintage bag. If this needs to be moved, please let me know.

Would any of you kind ladies be able to tell me the age or season of this bag? I did a search and it appears to be one of the older ones without Chloe on the clasp. There isn't a tag with a serial number on it either. Final note, the interior is a purple silk, although one of the pics looks more of a blue shade.

As you've ascertained, it's absolutely normal for the clasp to have no logo on it and for there to be no datecode tab (many of the older bags didn't have one).

Certainly, none of my older NAP-bought bags have one.

Looks authentic to me.

We don't have a name this chloe thread I don't think!


This bag looks like a Chloe camera bag - it was made in 2004. Don't know what the official Chloe colour name is though, sorry!

It's a variation of the Camera Bag, which was first released in A/W '03.

This is from Autumn '04, so it's a third season bag.

I spot this at one of the vintage store about 6 mos ago.. beautiful bag! Good to find out its name!

hi Bling, this is a bay specifically an unquilted one. There is also a quilted version. Alot of girls have the bay, there are heaps of styles. Though i havent seen this colour before, has it been authenticated?

I've seen this before but I can't remember the proper name for it - like Rowe said, it's an unqilted bay. I think it's a small patent bay unquilted shoulder bag or something like that, sorry, that's my best guess!

yes, i posted the auction link and it was authenticated by one of the ladies here. but then i got caught up in a meeting and missed the auction :(
