What a relief they were able to get her back to normal. I would be absolutely sick. Thanks for sharing your ordeal. Post pics of her!

I would. As soon as I have a chance to take a photo of the bag. Only thing that is not so good is that LOVELY leather smell is now gone.

The shop charged me S$80 for the cleaning. When I first brought it there, it collected S$110 from me as they thought the bag had to be sprayed.

Speaking of bag Spa's. If only we had something like this in Aus. Its so expensive to send OS to get done.
My Tale: My cigarette stinky paddy i recently bought. The nightclubber i call her. I was doing the febreeze thing for the lining. Hanging her outside and spraying inside. I thought its a good place to start to see what i can do myself. Its such a long process isnt it. - Spray, hang, wait - Spray, hang, wait We havent had much sunshine yet so i only did this on saturday, sunday was raining a little. Anyway, while giving it another spray in the lining, i wanted to test the leather, so i grabbed the long key holding strip and Febreezed away. let it hang with the paddy. So after about 2 hours i checked the bag and the leather strip. Now i know the strip stunk as much as the bag, well after it was dry the smell was gone & there were no blotches or stains that i could see. So i decided to try the same thing on the underside of the paddy. Again after about 2 hours it was better but not gone. Definately needs more treament. And no stains, marks or anything from the febreeze and didnt seem to make a difference to the leather feel yet. Im guessing too much might coat it. So a cleaner or cleanser might need to come into play later on. SO - i decided it was safe to spray this paddy all over. I KNOW I KNOW, I'm a bad mother, this is Chloe sacrelige. She was soaking and dripping Febreeze. You would all have been shocked. I blotted the droplets and hung her up. Only had the chance to do this once, but there seems to be an improvement and no damage to leather, no stains, no marks, leather feels same. So i might keep going with it. I was thinking of maybe doing a vinegar\water wipe down in between each one to clean her cos she is grubby and it would i think get rid of any build up. |

Rowe, that all sounds scary. I used olive oil to clean my leather boots, but they were black. And I believe the oil darkens leather. Made the leather look and feel good as new though. Be oh so careful. Sorry to hear of the cigarette smell. With time and use, it should improve too.

Rowe, I don't want to hijack this thread but there is kind of a bag spa service in Australia. I haven't used them but nearly did for when I got colour transfer on my bay. I got it out myself with collonill cream in the end. Never used them but did see them driving round the city. Says they'll fix jackets and sofas and things, I'm sure they'd have no issues with bags.
Check it out here: http://www.myleatherdoctor.com.au/co...her_doctor.php They have a few franchises listed in your state I hope one is local for you. They also come to you, and do full restoration - I'm sure they will have a product to take smells out. And don't worry about covering the paddy in febreeze - I've soaked my silverado in Pepsi accidentally - it came out SPOTLESS. It's just water it doesn't like ![]() Oh, and where do you get febreeze? Everyone I ask here has never heard of it!

Hi Rowe - here's another tip for odours - which I have found works well - put a fresh tumble dryer sheet inside the bag and tie the bag up in a plastic bag for a day or two. It seems to either absorb the odour or mask it very well...

i'll have to try that - i've read it many times but didnt know if it would work. The smell seems to be right in the leather - deep down.

Well DRR you were SO RIGHT with the tip to use laundry tumble sheets. Thats awesome it works SO well. 2 days in a plastic bag with the sheets in side the bag got rid of about 95% of the ciggie smell. The febreeze is brilliant in getting the inner lining smoke free. Its amazing.
I would highly recommend both to clean the smell for inner & outer leather bags. Continuing on, with the previous use of febreeze on the outside i could feel a waxy build up. Wiping down with 50\50 water & vinegar and hanging outside takes care of that. i recommend highly. Now what i need is a way to clean the actual leather of its discolouration - which qwerty has recommended i use a leather cleaner. but im happy that its ready to be used now. Thanks ladies. |
