Maria, I hope your beautiful little star made you proud in her play (and there was minimal nose-picking!)

DaisyRockyRoise, I hope you manage to survive the two days and enjoy the time with family and friends.

I love hearing about all these Christmas traditions I've been living in Australia 5 years and I still can't get used to hot Christmases - I'm used to a big cooked dinner on Christmas day, huddled up inside where it's warm. A Christmas BBQ by the pool takes a bit of getting used to.

When do you all put your Christmas decorations up? In Australia everything goes up on the 1st of December, while we used to wait until the 13th December (12 days before Christmas).

I was talking to my DH about all the X'mas traditions you girls wrote about. We both agree the strangest of all for us is X'mas being in summer. I just can't imagine that. I put up our X'mas tree away early, a few days before Thanksgiving day. I have a secret competition going on in my head every year, and I have to be the first one to put up X'mas tree in my neighborhood. So I have my HD called around to find out the first day anybody started selling fresh trees.

we used to built the nativity in he early days of december (minus the child jesus figure) but i don't remember the tree coming up until the week before xmas. the focus was on the nativity scene the tree and the santa claus things seem to be infiltrating more and more every year!
i am putting my tree up this weekend but my daughter took the nativity set to her dad's! so i am child-jesus-less this year...

I think it is tradition here as well to put up the christmas decorations on 1st of December. I only have one light up though It is no point as long as it is just me and the cat. I always have so much things on the mind and I forget other things that seem less important to me so if I do full christmas decorations then it will be up until easter until I remember to take it down. Halloween decorations normally stay up for months! I do actually decorate for halloween though because that holiday makes me all happy inside(Miss Evil style).
I sort of need to get dressed now and buy christmas gifts but I dont want to. It might be uncomfortable leaving it until monday though. All I need to buy is a beauty gift and a bottle of wine though because I got gifts for younger ones already. The idea of going into town when everyone will be stressed is not fun though.
I should buy some beauty products for myself as well. I am beginning to think at my age(over 30) I should start to use some anti age thing before I get any signs of age. On the other hand I still have sensitive and reactive skin so things might go weird if I change products.

On January 6th, the Three Wise Men arrive from the Middle East to deliver presents for everyone... It is a big day in many Spanish-speaking countries... School holidays last till January 7th or 8th (i know, crazy!)...
Nowadays many children get their presents from Father Christmas as well, but i dislike this foreign tradition since we have our own ( and i am not at all chauvinistic, but i feel we are losing our traditional ways of making Christmas the most special time of the year - apart from LuisaViaROma sales!)...

My parents also give presents to my children on Dec 25th, but they've decided it is Baby Jesus who is bringing them... The children dont mind as long as they can get more presents... They probably wish the Tooth Fairy (Perez Little Mouse here) was active at Chirstmas as well!

Did i leave anything out, Raquel? Ok, i'd better go back to paid work - laparoscopic gastric bypass - exciting?!
Maria, thanks for your explanation .
Anyway, in Spain there is one more tradition about Christmas presents, no Baby Jesus or Santa...no religious tradition at all.
In the Basque Country and Navarra (north of Spain) "Olentzero" brings gifts on December 24th (night). He is an old and fat shepherd who lives in the mountains and, this night, goes down in order to distribute presents...

that reminds me of the italian tradition of "la befana", the woman who leaves presents for the kids.

Oh, girls, i am in pain!
I've been training very hard to run a 10K race on Dec 31st with my ex-BIL and his friend... This was my biggest challenge so far after not running for around 6 years...

So i've been jogging four times a week, i got myself nice running clothes and wonderful running shoes, an iPod to keep me entertained... I really went into it...

I have been experiencing a very slight ache in my left knee... which turned into real pain during my jog today... I managed to finish with a very good pace, but now it is pretty sore and i am afraid it will only get worse if i continue training - which i need to if i am to complete the race!

I mean, it is only 10 days away and it was such an important goal for me...

I know i should try and rest for a few days, but knowing me i will probably be training again on Tuesday...

I am so sorry to hear that, Maria. Are you going to check it out in a hospital? You know, acupuncture might do a wonder. Have you try it before? I hope you get better soon.

do have it check maria, painful joints are really serious.
i heard that glucosamine is good for the joints but do go and have it check up!
what a bummer especially if yoy were looking forward to the run but hopefully it won't turn up to be something serious...get your daughter to kiss it better! just joking, mine used to get really dissapointed when her kissing wouldn;t relieve a migraine¡

Thanks, girls.. It is still stiff and sore today... I spoke to the therapist and he suggested REST. I am bummed!

He'll try to squeeze me in today for a check-out appointment... He thinks it is a ischiotibial overload (or something like that)...

On a more cheerful note, i just got a new bag that can be carried messenger-style, so i guess i will still look good when i am on clutches!

mariabdc - Hope the knee improves. I'd give it a few days rest - but do what the therapist tells you!

Anyone else not got a Christmas Tree in their home??
