No, in general we arent able to sew... If you are useless, you can pay a professional seamstress to do it for you... Imagine the cost... and you wont be able to recycle the fancy dress in the future... Teachers come up with different themes each year!

My grandmothers were very good at it, but they passed away three years ago, so no help on that front.

My Mum is just ok, but she doesnt know how to use a sewing machine. My ex-mother in law isnt bad, either, but i try not to ask for too much help.

I took some sewing classes a couple of years ago, but in the end i got fed up of just doing fancy dresses and gave up... I must take lessons up again soon... I'd have to use time devoted to the gym for that, so it pisses me off... Really!

Tell you what, i am looking forward to my children (aged 5 and 2,5) starting secondary school... since they wont have to dress up for the school plays...

Thanks, pukasongo... We were just supposed to do stars, so another Mum and me chose red because we had matching clothes... I have also purchased small silver star stickers that i will artistically spread on the body of the star... and silver and red glitter make-up, which she is very excited about.

The performance will take place tomorrow... and i havent started the hat yet... i must but keep coming back here for some entertainment!

my kids are not involved in any christmas productions this year - which has been a relief.

My current stress immediately following the christmas shopping is getting organised for christmas eve & day.

We decided to host a christmas eve party at our house this year (my husband is aregentinian & they celebrate on the 24th) - which was going to be a mix of family and friends totalling 16 people.

My mother in law had a car accident last week and is recovering at home, and is not up to hosting her own christmas eve at her house which was her plan, so it looks as if my husbands side of the family will now also be coming to our house on the 24th which makes a total of: 25 people.

And then we do the whole thing again the next day - Christmas Day .... with just immediate family = 16 people

I don't really know how I am going to host this without having a breakdown. Oh, we are also having out of town friends with a baby stay overnight with us over these 2 days !!!!

Not looking forward to Christmas.... Hope by some miracle - both days are actually fun....

Yeah, just go with the flow Daisyrockyrosie... remember, things could always be worse, so try to enjoy the tiring days ahead as much as you can.
Is your husband one who will help you? If so, it's time to get on his case and do a little whining about all this work and how you really need him to chip in..

: 24th dinner, 25th lunch, 30th more dinner, January 1st more lunch...and January 6th (I have no idea the name in English: "Reyes"), this is the day when we have the gifts

. Some people in Spain have gifts in Christmas but the most in January 6th.
Maria will explain better than me...poor English

I survived the star-making process! I put some silver star stickers and the little girl was looking very nice in the end... She also requested loads of glitter make-up and was really happy about the poor job i did on her face...

On January 6th, the Three Wise Men arrive from the Middle East to deliver presents for everyone... It is a big day in many Spanish-speaking countries... School holidays last till January 7th or 8th (i know, crazy!)...
Nowadays many children get their presents from Father Christmas as well, but i dislike this foreign tradition since we have our own ( and i am not at all chauvinistic, but i feel we are losing our traditional ways of making Christmas the most special time of the year - apart from LuisaViaROma sales!)...

My parents also give presents to my children on Dec 25th, but they've decided it is Baby Jesus who is bringing them... The children dont mind as long as they can get more presents... They probably wish the Tooth Fairy (Perez Little Mouse here) was active at Chirstmas as well!

Did i leave anything out, Raquel? Ok, i'd better go back to paid work - laparoscopic gastric bypass - exciting?!

That tradition sounds fun maria & raquel!!! I am originally from the USA - and originally only celebrated on Christmas day... But it is nice to do both the 24th & the 25th - just a bit tiring...

god...you are making me miss south america soo much! my grandmother used to built a whole scene for the pesebre...special paper hills with the star of bethelem on top,shepperds and all kinds of animals and the nativity in the middle. in peru they grow whear in tiny pots for the camels of the wise kings and the child jesus is put in his place only after midnight mass on the 24th. when i was little it was the child jesus who brought presents to the kids...we celebrate the 24th with a huge supper after the midnight mass with all the extended family. didn't get to bed until 5 sometimes!
i do miss that special hot chocolate
