Lots of people have spilled things on and in Bals. Go and have a look in the Care and Maintenance section. Don't use the hairdryer any more, particularly on the leather. Blot a lot, stuff out and try to let the bag dry naturally.

I did try blotting quite a bit - so sounds like it was the right thing to do, thank you Jenova At least I did something that may have helped

Thank you too pukasonqo I appreciate all your advice! I was so lost I wanted to post on TPF right away but I'd had the bottle of cola in there over 30 minutes so I thought I'd just dry it ASAP and post here for advice later. I hope I haven't done too much damage to my bag

I'm off to check the reference library now - still haven't checked out the leather, too nervous!

Have a look. It may be nothing or just little marks that are easy to deal with.

I have bathed a black B-bag without too much damage but don't rush into doing that as the stitching and interlining shrink. You might be able to spot clean out any little stains if the cola hit the leather.

i am sure you'll be able to clean it. the only thing i read that did damaged a bag was hot miso soup.
it makes me wonder if there's a similar place to lmb here in australia if you need an expensive bag repair or cleaned.

I know it sounds silly, but I can't look! I just paid this bag off last week and it's the most expensive thing I own, I'm terrified I've ruined it

I'll look eventually I'm sure.

I need to find a place similar to LMB here, or I'll send it to LMB or the furniture place in the UK. UK might be easier, I know people there who could send the bag in on my behalf. That's the worst case scenario of course!

Looking forward to seeing all your Bal accessory purchases ladies! You're making me want some now....

Oh a less happy note, I just spilt half a bottle of coca cola in my BG pink city

The lining was SOAKED. I turned it inside out and dried it with a hair drier as soon as I could, but I'm terrified to turn it the right way round again and see if it stained the leather I had the bal dustbag inside (the one day I bring it with me, so glad as it soaked a lot up) and that was totally stained with cola, so I'm worried about the delicate Bal leather....

I've finished crying now, but still can't bear to see the effect on the leather...
qwerty234 - OMG - I'm sorry - you need to turn this girl the right way out and take a look at her. No point in waiting - if she is stained then she is stained and you need to deal with it - and if she isn't then I'd just 'bite the bullet' and look - If she is stained - then contact Barbara at LMB - email her - and she will give you advice -

This is why I don't use my Balenciaga bags - actually I don't use any of the damned bags - the Mulberry just bounces back - it got a bottle of water spilled over it the other day - and was soaked, but she'd been nourished with Mulberry nourisher and then sprayed with Colonnil - and so it doesn't do damage. Balenciaga for me - they are too delicate - and with crazy cats - and my idiocy - I leave my bag lying on the stair and they sit in it, and play with the buckles etc., can you imagine - I'd have a Balenciaga pin cushion. I need to be locked up

haha, I guess you could say you're actually protecting the bags by not using them! they are such gorgeous bags though, are you not tempted to bring them out and just stare at them all day? I'm like that with my Chloes too, they make me smile when I look at them

I've searched TPF for how to deal with stains, and I think I'm prepared to look at my bag now. Plus, my man is fed up with my pouting and constant glancing at the bag every two seconds and has already offered to check it out for me twice. (he's very sweet, been inspecting it with a torch and everything and telling me it's all fine). At least we're both crazy

qwerty234 - No - I don't look at them - actually TBH I'm not that interested in them. I just sometimes don't 'get' the bag thing - and am usually quite happy to trundle round with one bag for an age.

Now - get that bag looked at - your bf is desperate you know!

Hey Lescoy

What are you doing winding all the Chloe girls up about the so-called delicate B-bags for?

I went out today with my 18 month old Bal Black Work, which has been:

  • Kept in a house with 3 cats (including a Bengal)
  • Never sprayed with Collonil
  • Used excessively (including as a briefcase when organising a funeral and buying a house)
  • Rained on frequently
  • Over conditioned including with cheap nasty stuff
  • Washed in the bath (to flush out said cheap nasty stuff).
It is still looking pretty d*mn fine. Not sure that my Chloes or Mulberrys would be after enduring such treatment.

Yours tetchily

Aggravated Balenciaga Customer

PS - They say that dogs grown like their owners or is it vice versa. Are you developing high-bred feline characteristics?

Post your bag to me. I'll have a quick 'look' at it for you. Worried that it might 'get lost in the post' on the way back to you though.

Jenova - whislt I appreciate your points above - the 2004 leather is very very soft and pillowy - and I really wouldn't want to get that caught in a rain shower for sure - and definitely wouldn't want the kitten playing with the tassels - I imagine if I were to start using them - I'd vandalise them to an extent, and then wouldn't - quite frankly - give a damn. Right now though - they really don't fit with my lifestyle - and for throwing round on a floor of a Cat Show Hall - the Mulberry really does withstand a huge amount, including being run over by escaped and petrified cats which occasionally get loose - not mine I hasten to add.

Equally Aggravated Cat Shower, with absolutely no high-bred feline characteristics - 'what you see - is what you get!

Jenova and Lescoy - You two should disagree more, it's hilarious to read

I'm very please to hear that your bal holds up to so much Jenova

Quick update on my BG city - well, I finally checked it out last night and it seemed a little darker on the bottom where the cola spill was, and it still is like that this morning, but TBH, that might just be the normal colour variation on the bal and I'm fairly confident that my bag survived this time around.

The visions I had in my head though of the cola soaking through to the leather will give me nightmares for weeks!

Oh, and I won that Chloe on ebay so I've officially bought my first bag of 2009. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I made it 6 weeks without buying a bag though, a small achievement.
