Default Any Elsie owners out there??
I currecntly have 2 Elsie bags on hold for me and I need to know if there are any issues (good AND bad) with this bag.
ie. snagging with chain handles, pulling of flap with placement of handles, etc.
I searched the forum but no one seems to have it yet!
Please ladies, any and all comments would be so appreciated!!

^^ I know chloehandbags has an Elsie - but its the Clutch. In theory the chain handles shouldn't snag - but in practice I've really no idea. Hopefully someone will be able to help.

Yes, I have the clutch version, so I can't help you re. possible handle issues, I'm afraid, panda.

I tend to find narrow chain handles, in general, a bit awkward and uncomfortable to hold, though, if that's any help?

Having said that, if I had the chain handled version, when it wasn't on my shoulder, I'd probably just hold it like a clutch, anyway.

Re. the clasp - it's lovely quality, heavy and has a nice, smooth, eighth of a turn motion, but it can also be a little fiddly to close if you haven't made sure the upper part is perfectly flush with the lower part, before turning the 'tap' and you can end up scratching the upper part if you try to force it.

Also, the clasp is brass so, like most Chloe brass HW, is prone to tarnishing - mine has a small area of tarnish on the very edge of the clasp and also some small holes in the lacquer, which may well lead to tarnishing in the future.

When compared with the older leather linings I would say that this one feels slightly less luxurious (although, still very nice).

None of these are deal-breakers, for me, though and over all, it's a lovely bag.

Hopefully, someone with the chain handled version will be able to help you, soon.

Thanks so much for your responeses so far^^
Chloehandbags, which color do you have?
The clutch version looks wonderful, they do not seem to carry that style in Tokyo.

As for the chain strap, I was only concerned becuz the sa sort of hinted that they would go with anything "except knit coats/sweaters, and anything delicate because the handles tend to snag".

But as you kindly pointed out Chloehandbags, I would probably hold it like a clutch in that case.
And as for the quality of the leather, I know what you mean about it being less luxurious.
But the style seems not as widespread which is one of the main reasons I am keen to get one

Yes, I prefer the ones that fly under the radar, somewhat, as well!

Oh dear, snagging doesn't sound good, though, does it?

Even if you carried it as a clutch, it might still snag on the hem of a knit, or whatever, as you walked...

If you like the clutch version, maybe you could ask them to order it for you/have it sent to you?

I hate that NAP carry so few true clutches, now, as well. They only have the crystal bow one, at the moment and much as I like grey, it's not a shade I'm particularly fond of (of course, it could just be the pics?).

I wish Chloe did a brochure, like a car showroom, that showed all the styles and variations of styles and a swatch of every colour and finish available!

But I digress.....back to the Elsie...

I, personally, tend to think the proportions of the clutch version are more attractive, anyway; it's slightly less E/W than the large Elsie and less square than the small one.

I also think the clasp looks better when it's quite large in proportion to the bag (as it is on the clutch) and I prefer where it's located on the clutch version, too (i.e. nearer the bottom of the bag).

I have the Purple (which isn't purple, at all, BTW - more like maroon [to confirm this, I took several 'samples' of it in Adobe and it showed in the reds]!) patent; it looks edible, like a raspberry coulis, or something!

Still trying to find out which other colours it comes/came in - Lescoy, very kindly, sent me a list, but I wanted to check that they were all the colours, so I contacted chloe.com and they, finally, told me that I should contact the Sloane St Chloe store directly, but they don't have an email and I hate having to ask lots of questions, over the phone, while they're trying to serve people etc..

I normally only call if I intend to buy, there and then.

Anyway, back to the 'Purple' clutch - I wasn't going to buy another Chloe patent bag, as I had been sent two Elvire clutches, from NAP, in A/W '07 and both had a very dodgy finish (brush strokes and missing patches [which proved that the finish had been hand applied, of course, which was good - but it didn't look good]), but I saw this and couldn't resist.

Not even sure if it's a true patent, actually? As it's more like a completely transparent glaze over the leather, rather than a clear glaze with dye in it (as most patent appears to be) and so, it shows all the variations in the colour and the texture of the leather underneath (which I really like).

Oh yes and it's got a lovely piece of suede, in a similar maroon colour, under the flap, which is the next best thing to it being suede-lined (which would have been nice, as the A/W '02 bags were suede-lined and really gorgeous).

So, I'm very happy with the leather on the outside of the bag and under the flap, it's just the lining that's, perhaps, not quite as luxurious as the older bags' leather linings...

But, at this point, I'm probably just utterly spoiled!

No problem, BTW!

Unfortunately, I don't own one so this might be OT, but I was wondering where you're buying from and which ones? I've wanted the Elsie in cream for a while but I don't know where you can buy it. Tried to email Chloe.com but haven't received answer.

Chloehandbags, I really appreciate your thoughts on the clutch.
It sounds perfect, particularly for the holidays and it will definitely be something to consider!
I do wish NAP had more clutches as well...not too fond the the gray bow one either.
Chloe does indeed make it a bit of a challenge to find a particular style/color but I suspect it might be intentional (for certain styles) to keep that exclusivity?
The ones I have on hold are apparently the last of their supply.
I will be sure to post pics if they do come home with me.
Advo, I will let you know if I come across any more in cream

chloe.com take an age to reply.

Not sure where there's a cream, but I know where there's a Taupe (not sure if that's the official colour name?), if you're interested?

I won't post it here, unless I know you're reading, as someone else might buy it!

My pleasure - sorry for the stream of consciousness, BTW!

Forgot to say - I don't know, but I think there could be a risk that the Cream may have sold-out, or be hard-to-find, due to the Sienna Miller connection? But I could (hopefully!) be wrong.

The Taupe looks really nice, though and is quite similar - just a bit darker (and so, more practical!).

Forgot to say (again! ) that another minor complaint is that the clasp, being shiny, is very prone to fingerprints.

Might be better in a textured and/or satin finish, from that point of view?

BTW, I was thinking about this in the bath (of all places!) and thought, wouldn't it be nice if the clasp had a similar, vintagey, finish to the Paddy silvertone lock (in a choice of goldtone, or silvertone)?

Then it really would be reminiscent of a genuine Victorian tap!

Then, my mind wandered further and I thought, wouldn't it be cool if the top of the 'tap' had a C on it; for Chloe and also for Cold!

But then I thought, of course, in French it would need to be an F for froid - but still, I think it would be kind of quirky to have a C!

Maybe that's what inspired the design in the first place? The designer looked at a tap with a C on it and thought; 'Ah, C for Chloe!'.
