Before the item can enter the USA it HAS to have the CITES permit from the exporting country...the exporter has to apply for that permit and once they have it they have to get some kind of export approval from their own customs, then it can be shipped.

If its not done properly either the bag will be confiscated (NOT LIKELY), or they give you a chance to re-export and import with the proper paperwork.

To be honest I am not sure how strict they are with this whole thing...but they seemed to all say the same thing when I spoke to them....and I did talk to quite a few people...

I would not take any risks with this!

Thanks mona_danya, Thats good to know if I decide to go ahead with it. Hey it could be the only python silverado in the country if i did !!

I have some info that might help us. One of the geeks at work, and there are MANY, wears cowboy boots with his suit to work. In Oz that is strange. but i digress...

He has alot of exotic boots, ostrich, snake, croc, python. He confirmed he gets these from overseas and ebay as has no issues with the exotic skins at all !!! WHY you ask. Because they are pre-loved (ew) but surely that applies for bags too.

He has also had customs open the packaging, check and deliver to him, no issues. Something about it being dead for ages. LOL

It's worth a thought.

I received a beautiful Python Silverado from "Linda's Stuff" to Australia with no problems.
Hope all goes well with this.

I think its a big risk...I know a fellow TPFer who successfuly had a python Betty delivered to her in Australia but when she then sold it to someone in Germany it was seized by customs. It was never returned to her and she lost out on $1500.

Food for thought!

^^Figures do they even have snakes there (Germany)? lol

Tell them to do the paper work and deliver your bag or get a refund! I believe there are snakes(pythons that are endangered) the problem is these customs agents are not wild life people they don't know, they just knows its snake!
