I remember reading about another PFer who had a similar problem with another snake skin chloe! I dont remember where exactly she was from, but I'm pretty sure it was in Europe, somewhere like Norway or something.

I'm so sorry to hear your having problems getting the bag you want...Those Heloise bags are simply to die for! I really hope everthing works out for you. Try to stay positive if you can!

I imagine it's a protected species under CITES which means that the store would need to obtain an export permit and you would need an import permit in order for the bag to be moved legally. It's a bit of a hassle so it's up to you, really.

http://www.ukcites.gov.uk/default.asp should have a contact telephone number somewhere. They are quite helpful so give them a ring and they'll tell you exactly what the story is.

Hi Tagullah,
Sorry to hear about your predicament.
I believe the info about CITES may be true. Also, I have come across ebay listings for snakeskin and croc/alligator bags, where the sellers say they cannot ship outside the USA due to regulations.
Hope Sacoche works out something for you soon.

Why can't the Chloe Store in Bahrain transfer the credit to the London Store if they can't or wont refund your money.

I would be tempted to call the London Store and tell them of your ongoing issue and see if you here any other options from them.

It all sounds screwy to me... but maybe I'm missing something.

Maybe even get hold of the Chloe Headquarters.... Maybe they would retify the situation once and for all.

Kitty
now this is an idea maybe they even have the lovely python bag there and they could send you one???
ive never had a package opened in customs??

I wouldn't take the risk. Tell her to immediately refund your money as she did not disclose that prior to sale. IT makes the transaction "impossible" to complete for you, and she should have told you that if she had prior knowledge.

So sorry to hear of your troubles, Tag. Do check with your UK custom office to see if that is correct. I just found out a few weeks ago that Canada does not permit private import of any kind of snakeskin product.
Perhaps do as Kitty mentioned ... checking with Chloe hq for credit transfer to Chloe London boutique. Good luck!

Thanks for all your thoughts and empathy on yet another of my 'adventures' .

I emailed Irene and cancelled the order and also asked why she hadn't told me that importing python skin items into the UK was illegal BEFORE she sold me the bag. She said that she didn't realise I was based in the UK and is not completely sure that exporting PS to the UK is definitely illegal. I don't know what the real story is here, but I've gone off the whole idea of owning the bag now, as I don't want to even take the tiniest risk of the it being seized by customs and the information coming from Sacoche is too confusing to trust.

Anyway there is apparently another shipment of bags coming into the store next week , so we'll see if there are any bags in that consignment that I may want to spend the damn store credit on. If not I'm going to contact the Sacoche manager direct to ask her to reconsider refunding my money, which I really don't think is an unreasonable request. I'll keep y'all posted and of course, let you know what new stock comes in ( IF it actually shows up before we're all together in the Chloe Geriatic Home for Bewildered Bag Addicts ).

Tag, go for it. Hope you can get your $$ back if you can't find anything you like in the new shipment.

I was just looking up what you can bring into the UK on the customs website. Does not say anything about snakeskin. Only you can not bring in animal products, rare or endagered species. Does Python count? Not sure. Here is a link to usps in the usa posting to Uk and Ireland, prohibitions and restrictions, does not say anything about snake skin. This will help if anyone wants to buy from usa, that is in uk, http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/fh_014.htm#ep3576772

I've also been eyeing off the Python Silverados. I emailed NAP and Aloha Rag and our local customs offices.

NAP say they cant export outside the EU, Aloha Rag cant also export outside the US.

I've also left info with the department store in town that sells Chloe, asking them if they are resticted in getting Pythons too. So i'm covering all bases. If most have said no then it would be a waste of time for me to get one off ebay, it might get seized at customs. They're too expensive to just loose like that.

I have recently had the pleasure of doing extensive research on this very issue...
I have a client interested in buying a python bag from outside the USA and wants to import it....after talking to US fisheries and wildlife as well as Fedex customs brokerage this is what I have found out....

Before the item can enter the USA it HAS to have the CITES permit from the exporting country...the exporter has to apply for that permit and once they have it they have to get some kind of export approval from their own customs, then it can be shipped.

If its not done properly either the bag will be confiscated (NOT LIKELY), or they give you a chance to re-export and import with the proper paperwork.

To be honest I am not sure how strict they are with this whole thing...but they seemed to all say the same thing when I spoke to them....and I did talk to quite a few people...

I would not take any risks with this!
