The silver hardware is supposed to look tarnished – it actually takes more effort (manufacturing-wise) to make it look like that instead of shiny. I say this because I happen to be a professor in metallurgy at my local university.

Yes! my lock and key is chipping and peeling to reveal a silver base! it's so irritating! What can i do to stop it from getting worse?

my paddy is frm 06.
i just read all 19 pages too, and it seems tat the majority of 06 brass locks seem to peel revealing a shiny silver undercoat! really not what you'd expect from such a marvelous design house!
