Is that the front of the bag? I saw one very similiar at the NMLC handbag event. It was more of a grey/brown color and the same shape. The front of the bag had a spring clasp and it had the same charms.

Hi. I received this vintage bag and have been trying to authenticate it at Authenticate this Chloe section. However, TPFs there recommended that I come here. Is anybody familiar with this bag? According to the hangtag, I'm thinking it's fake and should return it. (if I can..) Can anybody pleeeeease help me? Thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell, it looks good, to me, so far.

Do you have a pic of the internal heatstamp?

I was told to post the following in the Vintage Chloe thread. I hope this is the right one. Someone has tentatively dated this to be late 80s or early 90s. Any other assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is also a "Made in Italy" slightly embossed into the leather opposite the gold Chloe.

Thanks.

Hello,

I posted this bag in the authenticate this thread and they told me that someone over here may be more familiar with this bag. Suspecting that it may be vintage. Here are the pictures. Thanks.

Default Chloe Maronquinere Help to authenticate

This is a reply from someone in the purse forum asking me to post here to see if someone can authenticate this bag. Tell me what is it worth, what the style is etc. etc.
wattzat8 - Hi there - thanks for the additional photos. To be honest, I really have NO idea on this bag. The wording 'Maroquinerie' translated from French to English means 'leather working' literally. So its not saying its made in say Italy - as Chloe bags generally are - although they are now made in several locations including Romania, Bulgaria etc. If this is authentic - then I have to assume its an old bag - the heatstamps and the engraving would lead me to believe that. Also the lack of any serial/date tag which may have been in an inner pocket or at a seam - would point towards this being an old bag - although in fairness I can't say whether or not it is authentic.

I'd advise that you post these photos - in the 'All About Vintage' thread - here's the link

All about Vintage Chloe!

Perhaps one of our members who have some vintage bags will be able to shed some light on this. Also - I will have a look and do a bit of digging to see if I can come up with anything for you, and do promise to get back to you.

As I say - do post in the Vintage section - you may find someone who is aware of this bag, although I can't guarantee it. It can be difficult with the older bags - as not so many of the girls have them or have ever seen them etc., but I will do some checking - and I will get back to you.

Sorry meantime that I can't be more helpful.

Default Older Chloe

I have this bag in black epi-like leather, very sturdy. It is identical to mine except for the leather type. I believe it is a Karl Lagerfeld design. I got mine at Harrod's in London in the early to mid-'90s and paid somewhere between $600 and $900 for it. In those days I had lots of disposible income! I do not believe it came with an authenticity card, and there is no serial number on it. Look on the strap, top left side. Mine says Chloe there, too, and it's stamped "made in Italy" inside.

I do not know which store this what bought from, but I know its a reputable store , not a chloe boutique.

Has anyone seen this style before??? The leather is not as nice as the reccent paddys and silverados. I have no way of proving its authentic, but I am going to keep it for sentimental reasons.

From its colour, the ball zip-pull and the fact that it says 'Maroquinerie' (i.e. leather goods), rather than MADE IN ITALY (or elsewhere), I think this bag will, almost certainly, be from Phoebe Philo's first season; S/S '02.

I know that some of the very early Philo era leathergoods (e.g. belts) were made in France (I have a S/S '02 monkey and palm tree belt with 'Made in France' on it, for example); although, until now, all of the bags I have seen (and own) from '02 and S/S '03 either say MADE IN ITALY, or nothing (just 'Chloe').

As the member told you (was it Lescoy, by any chance?! ), it is perfectly normal for the older bags to not have datecode tabs.

I would say that, IMHO, it's almost certainly authentic.

Certainly, nothing is making me think it's fake, anyway.
