Vanessa - Even though my FMIL is not super-supportive, his stepmother is very supportive...LOL! At least I got one right? LOL!

Milton - I'm glad that you saw the sample of your invitation...and I love your personalized stamp!

Jgkitty - I usually give her the short version of the details so she is in the loop. Other than that, I'm usually mum...I'll let my mother give her more details.

Lab - I couldn't imagine my guest not eating the cake. What a waste!! Do places usually serve the cake or cupcakes or have a dessert bar or whatever?

needloub - I know, right?! I guess it depends as far as what is served. My girlfriend who got married last year just had a tiered "cupcake display". Each tier was a different cupcake flavor, 4 tiers total. It actually looked so elegant! There were special cupcake containers so guests could take their cupcakes home, which was a great idea because there was so much food for dinner that everyone was stuffed! I have heard of people also having a decorated cardboard cake (!) but serving sheet cake instead, which I guess is cheaper. We are having a dessert buffet and a regular wedding cake which will be cut and served, all being made by Hershey's pastry chef. Our reception is going to be fattening!

Oh Lab! That is exactly what I want....a regular wedding cake plus a dessert buffet. My father would rather have a dessert platter passed at each table...but I would rather have people up and about.

We had a dessert buffet and a cake. The cake was cut and served at our dance. It was great.

Well, I checked the mail and I received another prospective florist proposal. Her price is $7000 less than the other prospective florist I met with weeks ago! What's even better is that this florist totally understood my vision and was creative. She even incorporated calla lillies in my bouquet...I originally thought I was allergic, but she told me that I'm allergic to lillies (had no idea). I have one more florist to visit before I make my decision...

need, $7000 less!!!!!! And she understood your vision!!?? YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think a dessert table is such an awesome idea. We're having one in addition to our cake, with flambed strawberries and bananas, cheesecakes and mini eclairs, among other things which I cannot remember right now, lol! I think it's such a cool option for those who don't want to eat cake. Plus, I'm a dessert fiend, so it's great for me
We're also doing a candy buffet in our colors to accent the wedding cake table.

For DH, the groomsmen and our Dad's we used black magic roses with no greenery and silver sparkly thread around the bottom to make them pop against the black tuxes. They looked super sharp.

we aren't doing boutonnieres, the groomsmen are all going to be wearing pocket squares that match the bridesmaid's dresses. the designer that made the dresses made them out of the same fabric

Ok girls I need help. My best friend and MOH at my wedding is now planning hers. She's not actually engaged to her boyfriend at the moment but I'm not even going to get into that. Anyway my issue she is having a BBQ at her parents house and a private ceremony. Ok, not my taste but fine. The issue is she expects people to bring gifts and I was always taught that the gift is equal to the cost of the meal... I know some people give more or less but her "guests" are expected to bring their own food and drinks. I tried to tell her not to expect large gifts but she isn't listening. Am I wrong?? This seems to tasteless to me.

if they are expected to bring their own food, i think that is their gift... how is she planning on wording all of this? it seems like she hasn't really thought this through. i think you should tell her to wait until she is actually engaged... then maybe get her one of those wedding planning books. i hate to say it, but it sounds like a bridezilla disaster waiting to happen...

milton I agree. She is one of my 2 besties but she always goes full steam ahead without thinking things through. She kind of dropped the ball as my MOH but I am trying not to hold a grudge. The worst part is I don't think she wants to send out invites. Just call people... It's like they want gifts but don't want to spend money to show their guests a good time. When I suggusted having some cocktails and apps to give people she said she would be saving money by having them bring their own and saving the guests money by getting them to take their own booze. I have never been to a wedding like this... Anyone else?
