meggyg8r.. I LOVE that cake! Especially the bride & groom. too cute

& Arnott what I would suggest doing is search yelp for asian salons or projectwedding.com
there has to be AT LEAST one good salon to get your makeup, I found mines @ projectwedding

you definitely want to see what they are going to do beforehand, you don't want to meet someone that day and hate what you look like.
$300 for a trial?!

I don't want to spend loads of money on hair and makeup, I just want to look nice. Ergh

^^I thought that price was pretty standard if you were considering a well-known hairdresser and makeup artist.

arnott, I would check the local resources on the knot. You can check their boards to see if there are any brides who used an artist you're looking at in your area. Fournately, I was able to see the work artist I hired on FI's sister when she was married in May. I think word of mouth is a also a great resource if you know people who've utilized services of make up artists in your area for their weddings. My artist is including my trial in the charge, but I didn't 'audition' her, though.

the parade crowds are all walking outside of my office... they're crazy!

so i thought about some people in NJ for you if you don't want to have people come in from NYC... i haven't been in a long time, so it may not even still be around, but in Livingston, there is a place called Let's Make Up... i'm pretty sure that they have make-up artists there as well as sell make-up.
for hair, my mother goes to a place in Westfield called Salon Visage. Christina, who owns it with her husband, has been doing my moms hair for 10 years... she wanted to come into the city to do my hair, i personally don't like the way she does my hair, but they are good there. Another guy there, Al, cuts my hair.

arnott, that's pretty standard here for a trial. but you also have to remember, i'm in NYC, everything in general is more expensive here. it could be a lot less where you are.

hi ladies! i feel like i have not been on here in a long time!

i'm kinda at a standstill also! trying to reserve our guest rooms at the resort, and it's been dragging... my wedding coordinator in bali has been great, but everytime she gives me answers over email, i have more questions, so it has been going on like this back and forth for several weeks.

well, something exciting did happen yesterday, i FINALLY BOUGHT MY WEDDING BAND! i don't know if you remember, but i had originally thought i would do 2 thin eternity bands sandwiching my e-ring, but after trying out that look for a few days, i felt like the bands were distracting and took away from my e-ring... so i decided to return the eternity bands and get a separate band with just 5 larger diamonds on the top (i will wear the wedding band and e-ring on separate hands)... initially i thought i would get asscher cut stones, but when i went to the jewelry store yesterday, the round brilliants were so beautiful... they appear larger to the eye carat for carat, and with diamonds that small, you won't be able to see the step cuts of the asschers anyway... so i decided to go with a 5 stone round brilliant wedding band!!! it needs to be custom made to my size, so it won't be ready until 2-3 weeks, but i am sooooo excited for it! it was so beautiful in the store, but it was too big on my finger so it's hard to visualize really what it would look like when it fits snugly.

i ordered the Damiani D-side ring in white gold with 20 diamonds. but they have to special make it because they usually have "Damiani" embossed on the top of the ring, i didn't want that, so they have to make one that doesn't have it. they never told me how long it was going to be, i ordered it from the jeweler my family has been going to for 15 years, she ordered it when the rep was in the store a few weeks ago. she is calling them now to find out. i didn't want an eternity band, i wanted something more subtle.
