I didn't see any other sizes so I am not sure. Yes, it's fairly easy to open it while on the shoulder. This is based on my experience with non-Chanel bags that are a little trickier to open (e.g. YSL Muse Two).

I want to share something with you guys. DH knows that I've always wanted a Chanel purse. He wasn't impressed with this one. I was so confused. He prefers the Fendi Elite 2 Jour. I was really close to buying that bag but with a $300 difference, no questions, I went with this Chanel. So, I showed him pics of other Chanel bags and the only one he liked was the reissue flap which is more than 5k. It bothered me at first but now I'm ok. He's not the one buying and wearing my bags and I can't expect him to agree with me all the time. I guess I just wanted a little bit more appreciation from him. Thank goodness for tPF and the support I get here.

Also wondering will this kind of leather soften over time? I am not sure how many kinds of caviar leather there are so I'm really curious.
