Swanky, tks. Agree with you that this is helpful cos some SAs have no idea what a "reissue" means. (how sad......they just give the blank look)

Yep, here we go...I just bought the same bag in brown...M/M lock with classic chain. I even posted a thread asking what this was - a Reissue (because of the lock) or a Classic (due to the chain) or Hybrid (because it has elements of many different bags) I received some information and then also chatted with another tpf'er who has this same bag and it seems she was told it it considered the "New Classic Flap" by SA/Chanel.
We need Chanel 101 Advanced Studies Class...hahaha

I haven't carried it or taken the tag off yet. Only took it out of the box now and then to admire it and noticed scatches already from my chain!! So sad =(. I bought it last sunday. Are you happy with your purchase? Not sure if I am.

Hi all... wandering over from the H side, all your pics make me want to get a Chanel bag! I've been trawling here for the past week.
But for the life of me when I look at all the pics I can't see the difference between Flap, Classic Flap and Reissues. Here and there I also see the word East-West thrown in. Can anyone explain to this newbie what is the diff between these styles? Is it the size or the interior or what? I'm desiring the medium size one...but I do want to do my research first! I went to the store and the sa was not very helpful in explaining. Thank you!

there is a search function on the forum, do a search with the key words you'll be able to get numerous threads on this topic. Attached above is one of them. Sizes of reissue flaps: 224,225,226,227,228. Sizes of Timeless classic flaps: mini, east/west, med/large (means the same thing), Jumbo. There might be a Small size but I am not sure. |

This is what I've learned after days of reading.
The classic flaps comes in 4 sizes, they're made of carviar leather or lambskin, with interwoven and double C closure. size: mini small med/large jumbo pic borrowed from elongreach The reissue also known as the 2.55, they're made of distressed leather, with rectangle closure. size: 224 225 226 227 228 pic borrowed from slc E/W flap: single interwoven chain, also comes with new double chain, with double C closure. They're made of lamb, caviar and patent leather. ![]() pic borrowed from Krysta hope it help. |

tt_81, thanks for the help. I've been lurking for a couple of months on the forum and never understood it either. This would be a great sticky for newbies.

I call them classic, reissue and hybrid. I never heard the 2.55 used until the reissues came out.

This thread is too confusing!
Here goes: In February 1955 Coco Chanel introduced a handbag - double flap, with mademoiselle (square) closure and mademoiselle metal chain. It became popularly known as the 2.55. Over the years there have been many variations to the original design of the 2.55 including the leather/fabric, the chain - metal vs. interwoven leather, single flap vs. double flap, and the closure - mademoiselle vs. interlocking CC. The 2.55 refers to ALL FLAP STYLE BAGS including variations of the original. The term CLASSIC FLAP commonly refers to the flap with the interlocking CC closure and the leather interwoven chain. In February 2005 Karl Lagerfeld re-made the 2.55 - exactly as Coco Chanel had made in 1955 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 2.55. It came to be known as the REISSUE. Technically the term REISSUE should only be used for the bags that were made to commemorate the original - so only those in 2005. However, it has become convenient to call all 2.55s that resemble the original 2.55 REISSUEs and all 2.55s that have the interlocking CCs CLASSIC FLAPS. |
