Reference: Difference between the 2.55 & the Classic Flaps & other essential info

The Medium/Large is the same thing if Im not mistaken.

I believe the XL Jumbo that you're talking about was only made for a limited time and cannot be found in boutiques anymore.

My Classic Flap is 12" across the botton. Some people refer to it as jumbo but the Chanel sales receipt says its: LRG. It is confusing. I just tried the sizes out under my arm AND I bought a bag that is a perfect size for what I carry and tried to get close as poss. I carry tons in it: 2 eyeglass cases, large Prada wallet, make up, Palm Treo... plenty of room. LOVE IT.

I have a question about the 2.55 Reissue and the new classic flap that has the Mademoiselle clasp and the new chain.

What's the difference between the two? Is the leather different? Or is it something else?

I live in Canada, so I haven't seen the reissue IRL, so I can't really compare them.

I think the leather and dimensions are different, so reissue is a bit softer not so boxy and the other is a bit more structured.

I believe the "reissue" name comes from the fact that it is a copy of the original classic Chanel that was released in 2.55 (Feb. 1955.) I *think* that "reissue" is technically the incorrect name. I know some SAs don't know what people are saying when they refer to it in that way. I was under the impression that it was the 2.55(?) Someone please confirm or deny that though.

The chain is different than the classic chain on the flaps, though it does have the madmoiselle lock. The leather and demensions on them are different as well it seems. If you look in the reference library, you can see the difference. I think it's quite easy to tell once you know the bags.

Ok I know some of you are rolling your eyes at this lool.. But I really dont get it.

It looks the same - its just the clasp is different. I always wanted one. But now I am so confused!

Will I find a dark red in the classic? or am I just deluding myself?

If you do a search for reissue and classic in the "search" feature on the control bar on the top of the bage you should be able to find some great threads. Reissue 2.55 is what you should search for.

But simply put the Reissue, is called the reissue because it was the original design of the flaps. The major difference between that in the classic flap are:

1. closure/locks-classic has the double cc turnstyle lock, the Reissue has the MM lock which means its a rectangle shape and not the double cc
2. the handle. the reissue has an all chain handle, while the classic has leather interwoven between the chain links
3. Reissue has a different type of leather, that is made to seem more worn than the caviar leather on the classics
4. I believe all the reissues have a double flap inside, whereas the jumbo classic does not
5. Also sizes, the sizes on the reissues are different than the sizes on the classic flaps

I understand that the classic has 3 sizes. Small, medium and jumbo.

How about the reissue?

Not an expert by any means, but the reissue depending on the color i think have been made in 4 or 5 different styles 224, 225, 226 227 and 228. I think the 228 are very rare, and only limited.

The 225, is smaller than the medium flap, the 226 is inbetween the medium and jumbo classic and the 227 is larger than the jumbo.

In short: a 2.55 is a reissue... and a classic flap is the one with the cc toggle.

i think most 2.55 are classic but not all classic are 2.55.....2.55 means....created in feb(moth no.2) 1955...that's why its called 2.55 has nothing to do with other things....does this help?

The classic has the CC lock while the reissue has the rectangular mademoiselle lock. Also, the straps are different. The classic has the interwoven leather & chain strap while the reissue is just a chain link.
