My heart is aching for you now. I can imagine all the stress and disappointment you're feeling. I totally agree with Ranag here and what she said on the ebay forums. It looks good, but a fake is still a fake. But let's stay positive and hopeful and wait for your recourse, which I'm sure will take place. Don't worry you've got a lot of people supporting you on this forum!

I didn't realize Paypal had this rule. It makes sense, if you are going to buy something expensive from someone with low and/or bad feedback- it's at your own risk.

I hope you get your money back!! I wish you the best!

Sad to say, there ARE unfortunately a lot of very sophisticated fakes in the market these days... Like you said, you just haven't seen them. The zipper inconsistency would be a huge worry for me too. And it was really dodgy of her cutting off the sticker on the box and planting those fake tags.

Here is Paypal's rule for buyer protection and refunding and it is only good for up to $1000 US Dollars:

Eligibility. PayPal Buyer Protection will be offered on the eBay listings of sellers who meet the qualification requirements at the time of posting the listing. If a listing is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection, the phrase PayPal Buyer Protection will be inserted in the Seller Information box.

Seller Qualification Requirements. A seller's eBay listings are eligible to qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection coverage if the following conditions are met:
  1. The seller's eBay feedback rating is at least 50;
  2. At least 98% of the seller's eBay feedback is positive. The percentage calculation for this purpose includes feedback from repeat users, and therefore may be higher than the unique positive feedback percentage displayed on eBay;
  3. The seller is a member of PayPal in one of the following countries:
    • Austria
    • Australia
    • Belgium
    • Canada
    • France
    • Germany
    • Hong Kong
    • India
    • Ireland
    • Italy
    • Japan
    • Korea
    • Netherlands
    • Singapore
    • Spain
    • Switzerland
    • Taiwan
    • United Kingdom
    • United States
  4. The seller has a Verified Premier or Business PayPal account;
  5. The seller's PayPal account is in good standing.
A seller may check whether he or she might be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection from the "Seller Eligibility for PayPal Buyer Protection" page. The "Seller Eligibility for PayPal Buyer Protection" page is available from the Profile subtab of the My Account tab of the seller's PayPal account. This page is only accessible by sellers in countries where PayPal Buyer Protection eligibility is available. However, because a seller's eligibility status may change, the final eligibility decision will be made by eBay at the time of listing.

Eligibility for PayPal Buyer Protection is automatic, based on the above guidelines. Sellers may contact PayPal by telephone to request to opt out of PayPal Buyer Protection. Any request will be evaluated by PayPal. To contact PayPal about your PayPal Buyer Protection eligibility, log in to your PayPal account and click on the Help link in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Go to the "Contact Us" link, and then choose "Help By Phone" link.

This is what happens when the seller is not qualified for the above protection:

For eligible eBay transactions, PayPal automatically applies eBay’s Standard Purchase Protection Program. A separate eBay claim is not needed. See eBay for details and eligibility.

you can find it at pages.ebay.com/help/tp/esppp-process.html

The fakes are getting better and better each year sadly. There are some truly fantastic looking fakes - but they always screw up on one minor detail. That YKK zipper does not belong on any Chanel bag. I do not believe it was a replacement zipper, or the seller would have told the buyer when she emailed her about the inconsistencies with the bag.

Wow, I was on earlier and when I logged back in to see this I WAS SO ASTONISHED.... This thing happened to my girlfriend... but she bought hers from Bloomies !!! The zipper broke and she took it back and they told her it was a fake and she was committing fraud.. She had receipt and original bag.. still they were like sorry...These inconsistisies the SA pointed out. The zippers had YKK... She made a stink called managers and in the end SECURITY was called and we were removed... She very well may have bought it from Chanel, but someone returned a fake and they resold it to her..I have returned a few bags to Neimans and they know I am a regular customer and they put the bags right back into stock, only checked to see if the tags were attached...It could have even been an inside job, where an employee accepted a fake exchange from someone ..New York has some strange stuff going on... I even thought the bag was real, especially since she bought it from Bloomies.. I never looked twice at any of this other stuff. I assumed if you are buying from a well known store you are getting the real stuff, but there are alot of things that could have happend..
If this is a fake.. its the best damn fake I have ever seen..... Had you not paid so much, I would carry it and keep smiling.. just joking- trying to make you smile in such a hard time...
Forget paypal.. I am beginning to believe they are a rip off too !!! They really don't protect you...Call the CC company right away. This has to many if's and suspiscions.. return it get your money back and spend a few extra dollars and get one you don't have to ask questions about...

The seller of this bag is saying she worked for Chanel and bought it directly from the Chanel manager...yeah right. That bag has too much wrong with it. It could be an inside job, but I doubt it. I believe the seller is lying about working for Chanel - she would not need to put the wrong tag or cut off the box labeling if she worked for Chanel.

And if she really wanted to pull off this scam, she would have sold it without the box or tag, and would have removed that horrible YKK zipper pull...

A fake of that quality can cost around $500 - she sure made one heck of a profit on it.

Check this one out.

Chanel,Chanel Luxury Flat Shopping bag 20096 Black--in stock!, usd95/pc included shipping.

I don't own this bag but to my amateur eyes the markings are all correct (correct me if I'm wrong). And it's selling for $95.

But perhaps there are even higher quality fakes than that selling for much higher. Not sure.

I've never even seen a fake that good ! Well LV has some great knockoffs , but honestly they have to be much easier to make than a classic flap .

Wow , if she lived by me I'd be knocking on her door right about now ! whats the name of the seller , again ? No buying from them !

Ranag , I read the thread on ebay and you mentioned another seller that this person may have bought bags from ....I have always looked at their bags and thought for sure they were authentic ! Now , I'm starting to wonder . It's such a gamble to buy handbags on ebay ...sigh .
