Default Lambskin vs. Caviar leather?

I have been buying on eBay. I have seen identical purses in lambskin and caviar leather (we are talking light colors here, pink, white, baby blue, ). The lambskin always seeems more expensive. I own two dark lambskin purses, I know they are delicate, but the lambskin is exquisite. Is the Caviar considered as beautiful, and which is more popular in light colors? I don't know which to bid on! Also, is red considered more exclusive than the light colors? Thanks for any advice, don't want to buy something and then feel I made a mistake.

Hi and welcome to tPF

Lambskin leather is more expensive and more delicate than caviar leather. But caviar leather is also beautiful. It's calfskin leather with a pebbled texture. It's more sturdy and durable than lambskin. It can take alot and you don't have to worry about scratches or taking it out in the rain, for example. But nothing beats the look and feel of lambskin leather IMO.

White, pink and beige are popular light colors. Red colored bags are very hard to find. Especially the flaps, it's impossible to find a red flap at the boutiques at this moment. Hopefully Chanel will bring out a red flap again for the Spring/Summer collection

Thank you for advice! I am torn between white (always a classic, two styles, the full flap covering the bag or the half flap,) or a pale pink.( I missed out on a chance to buy a vintage red and a vintage peach...well, something always comes along). I agree..the lambskin is fragile, but just beautiful, and I tend to favour it although I know it is not as practical. I guess it means using the lambskin ( I own a few in dark colours) less frequently. The white half flap is smaller than the full flap,, but I think more youthful than the full foldover flap that covers the front of the bag. what do you think?

Nothing beats the luxury of lambskin. Personally though, I just prefer caviar because I'd hate to get caught in the rain with a lambskin bag.

They both have their advantages. Soft, supple lambskin.....beautiful, shiny, and sturdy caviar. It's just a matter of preference.

I like lamb on dark colors and prefer the caviar leather on the lighter color.

I think a lot of ppl would prefer light color flap in Caviar. Since lambskin in light color is harder to take care.(get dirty easy and you need to worry about color transfer..etc)
I prefer dark color in lambskin, and light color in caviar.

The pink, beige, white are all highly demand color. Very chic and pretty.
Especially with SH.
Red one is so hard to find, that's why they mostly priced over retail.

Question: I really like the look of lambskin GSTs (like the one Jessica Stam has). I feel like it looks more soft. I noticed that most everyone has caviar ones, however.

I was wondering why is this? Are there drawbacks w/ the lambskin one? I'd love to get one, so any input/advice is super appreciated! :)

It truly comes down to personal taste. The caviar is a harder leather that is more sturdy and easier to take care of in the sense that it can get knocked around a bit more without any glaring marks. The lambskin is soft and supple, but can show scratches easily and is very sensitive to the rain/water marks. That being said I will always prefer the luxury of the lambskin.

The lambskin bags are gorgeous, but with my life, I get caviar as I need purses that can I don't have to be as careful with (ie I am a mom).

I absolutely agree with this!I'd choose lambskin over other kinds of leather despite the extra care! But again caviar for everyday use it's perfect IMO!
