Default Interesting...
A jacket I have been coveting for months is available today at 60% off from a CHANEL boutique, but I cannot buy it because it's on hold for someone else. In fact it has been on hold for at least 4 weeks. Yesterday I found out that it is in fact on hold for the store manager for herself. I also heard rumor that there is another one available at a different boutique but that one is being held for a director.

I knew that SA's hold merchandise for their customers (normally department store SA's), but I didn't think they could hold things for themselves.

I am beyond crushed, and very disappointed to know that SA's do this.

ETA: Has anybody heard of this happening before, or have a similar experience?

Thank you.

The store manager doesn't have enough means to pay? More likely she was waiting for the 60% markdown and then her additional employee discount to get the jacket for a steal.

I feel your pain

How did you find out they are holding it for staff? Normally, they shouldn't do this. I used to work in retail and this was definately against the rules.

This sucks

Wow, I'm really surprised to hear that its been on hold for 4 weeks and for the store manager, nonetheless. Its amazing that they are more than willing to bend the rules for themselves, but if a customer asks its always a no becuase its on sale, etc. etc... I see the employees at Saks doing this all the time. I think they spend more time shopping than they do waiting on customers.

Is there anyway you can ask her if she has any intentions of buying it and if not, if you could have it?

I left my information and credit card number with one of the sales associates yesterday. I'm going to call back today to see if someone there will take pity on me.

I checked with the store 4 weeks ago because the jacket was showing up in the CHANEL computer system as available. When called to I inquire about it I was told it was "gone". Yesterday my sales associate said the jacket was still showing as available at that particular store, so I called and one SA was able to finally locate it in their "hold" section.

Go above her head to the area manager.

She should either buy it or sell it to a customer (like you).

I think what she's doing totally unethical.

Oh - and if things don't go your way DO NOT SHOP THERE AGAIN

Four week hold? That's too long, esp for their own employee. I was under the impression that they were not supposed to do that. Customers always come first.

I know at Saks or Neimans, their own employees are limited on how many/much they can buy with their own employee discounts.

I think you should definitely talk to the district manager to see what they have to say, and I hope you do get that jacket.

I am so surprised. I haven't ever heard of it happening, and would not have thought that it was possible.

Super shady... another reason why I prefer the dept stores over the boutiques. I hope that you find the jacket elsewhere. So frustrating!!!
