Default Fur for bags - Cruel or Not? --NSFW--

After reading that brief discussion in the "Authentic finds" section for Chanel about using stillborn calves for skin..it got me thinking how cruel we can be to use fur on clothing, bags, rugs, shoes, etc.
i mean, the fur business is risky and i KNOW for sure they dont only take fur from animals that are already dead.
i remember a few years ago seeing a full 20 minute video on the internet of this factory that captured badgers in Asia and slaughtered them. ripped their skins off of their body from head to toe. in the end the guy threw the skinless body onto a truck full of other badgers. probably over 60 of them. some dead, some alive still. you could still see one moving after that. it was really painful to watch.

i know alot of you guys have different opinions on this, so tell me what u think.
sorry if its a repost.

Most bags are made of leather, so same arguments go for leather, yes?

ahhh i'm a sucker for all things exotic like python and croc but i'm never that much into fur since there's no need for that in my country. i remember buying a coat with fur collars in paris and i didn't know they were genuine rabbit fur until i paid and got home. i was just so sad to know that i actually bought real fur and for just 290 euros i could get a decent trendy coat with genuine rabbit fur, holy moly! i feel so bad thinking of the poor rabbits :( personally, i am against unethical slaughtering and selling.

I recently bought a Chanel piece that has fur. I really like fur. However, from a little girl, my mother, grandmother, and aunts had fur coats. I think they're
pretty and soooooo soft. When you know real fur, like I do, you can't stand faux. I just like it to be honest.

i mean, i know people think that fur is fashion, but i dont know. im kind of stuck in between. i know that fur is soft and the quality is good compared to other things, but when you get to see how its made....it really gets to u. personally i dont think i would want to buy anything that is fur right now. even though its nice, i would have a guilty conscious wearing it everytime.

From someone who does eat meat, I do still have this feeling when I hear that bags are made from animal skins...! If the animal is killed for meat as well as skin, I feel it is more reasonable. But if an animal is cruelly killed purposely for their fur then I am totally against .

I still feel a tad bit 'guilty' for buying the calf skin bags, but considering that I do it beef..

There's a funny story about me when I went to a restaurant years back, I ordered lamb, and didn't really think much of it until I placed it in my mouth and all I could think of was this little lamb starring back at me. I felt really bad and ended up leaving most of the dish. After that time, I have stopped eating lamb altogether obviously it is pointless as I still eat pork and beef!

Personally, I would prefer designers to just use cows, sheeps and pigs.....as they are highly consumed. And against all other animals...I sound a bit weird don't I!

Also when I see someone wearing fur I just go EWWWWWWW!

^ I know what you mean, as I do eat meat too, myself. I mean, theres nothing wrong with being a carnivore, cause you know, its an animal world.
Just like in the jungle, animals hunt eachother down, to eat and survive.
We just do the same thing, but in a more cleaner way. lol

I'm against fur because of cruelty to animals. I don't even like exotic skins.

I dont do fur at all. I think its cruel. I hope that lamb used for the lambskin bags are at least eaten so its not killed for its skin. I dont eat lamb either. Lamb is such a gorgeous animal and um, it says MAAAAAA. The times I ponder on this, I clutch my ice cube flap lol.

As far as using naturally stillborn calves for their skin, that certainly is not cruel at all.

Probably way off topic here, but I just remodeled my mother's mink coat. It's now a reversible mink raincoat -- with the fur sheared off so it just looks plushy. The original coat is over 40 years old and probably was rebuilt from an existing coat when my mother was given the coat. It's all about recycling. She and my grandmother always had their coats redone every so often to keep the styling current. They were dyed and redyed.
I remember handbags that my mother and grandmother carried called "unborn calf." I never understood the attraction. I still have them in my collection, but would never use them. I think that might be what the original poster is talking about.
