I'm Asian and I have yellow tone to my skin and I prefer silver or white metal against my skin, especially if I'm tan.
Most of my jewelry is white metal.
My first Chanel had white metal and I wanted it that way because coming from LV, Chloe and Balenciaga, most of the bags in my collection had yellow toned hardware.

I think you should get whatever you use more, but IMO, you can't go wrong either way as a Chanel bag is beautiful no matter what color hardware.

Both chains are beautiful - just got my first Chanel with new chain and love it. But the leather interwoven chain is the essence of CHANEL....IMO.

Can't go wrong either way.......

For the 1st Chanel bag, I vote for the old chain which is more classic. As for gold versus silver hardware, I like them both. Silver hardware blends in with the black caviar leather while gold hardware gives it an extra pop. Go with what your heart calls out for. =)

I have the med caviar in black with silver h/w (old chain). I love it, my first Chanel. I have the red medium with the new chain, so I like both, but for some reason I like the black with the old chain better. Like everyone else said though, it's just personal preference. Please post pics when you decide!

for a 1st chanel, i'd go with a caviar classic flap with silver hw! normally i'd pick the classic/old chain, but if you like the new chain, i'd get it now since its supposed to be limited edition. Hope that helps, and good luck with your decision!

Hi KellyLV, I've my black medium classic flap caviar in classic silver h/w chain for a fews day, i also didn't got a chance to try it on myself cos it was a last mins switch from LV to Chanel order as my friend is leaving immediately, i m satify with it. However, as most of the PFers mentioned, i didn't stop here, i m looking for reissue (which has full metal chain) and the expandable. I will get them all in time to come.

i would say old chain for your first chanel but for hardware color, its better to try it on and see what works for you. I have both gold and silver hardware and i seem to like the gold h/w with the smaller bags like e/w and silver for the large and jumbo. And to confuse you more .... i like gold h/w on lambskin and silver for caviar nothing beats gold against lambskin its an absolute luxury !
