Dear Purse-onality,

Thank you for letting us know the mysterious story behind 2.55 Reissue. Now I love mine even more..

Cheers,

The brownish red color of the inside represents the color of Coco and the rest of the children's uniforms (the nuns' were black with white trim: thus, the packaging on Chanel parfum/au de parfum/au de toilette). The back outside flap of the Reissue represents where Coco would stash extra money..........
we just wanted to share this with our PF sisters lol

What an interesting history lesson! Coco was a master of creating utilitarian pieces but also pieces of art and it's inspiring to hear that positive can spring from the not so ideal experience.

Thanks for sharing.

bumping up an old thread - I was wondering whether anyone knew the original specs of the bag coco created back in 1955. what type of leather (caviar / lambskin / distressed?), the type of chain (is it bijoux or however you spell it??), what color hardware, the original size (medium, large, xl, etc.), and color ... ?

thanks!!!

Someone correct me if I am wrong.... but I believe when Chanel did the 1st re-issue in Feb of 2005, they kopy-kat the original spec's of the flap handbag from 1955. (The interior of this special release is marked: 2.55 2005) I believe the leather was distressed, black, with the gold hardware bijoux chain, and the maroonish interior. Check the reference library under the flap postings and you will find a picture of it.

Thankx for the history!
Now I know why Chanel uses the red interior which I personally think is not so nice..
