Default Do you think the vintage XL jumbo is still timeless?

I've already told you about 8 million times (but who is counting? ) that I am dying for one but I wonder if this is something that will be great in 5 years. I like that it is kind of quirky. Your thoughts?

I'm hesitant to be honest here, but I hope nobody will take offense. To me, the vintage XL jumbo is evidence that Chanel isn't truly "timeless" as we like to believe all classics are. Even classics shift and change with the passing seasons... the proportions of the vintage jumbo are very different than the newer flaps. It's not "timeless" in the sense that you can't tell when it was purchased, like many more modern classic flaps. This doesn't mean they can't be loved... lots of celebs are spotted with vintage jumbos. It's whether or not you care for the specific style of the vintage jumbo. To my eye, they are just obviously older bags, due to the proportions. Doesn't mean they aren't nice to look at!

I couldn't have said it better. I feel the flap (shape) itself is iconic, but it has had subtle changes throughout the years.

Please don't hesitate to be honest! I appreciate honesty.

I do love the style of it. I admit that I kind of like quirky designs which I think the vintage XL kind of is. It has the same type of shape but the proportions (to me) make it more of a statement piece.

I totally agree.

i agree that classics change over time but this change is initiated by the fashion house i.e. the timeless classic range has been subtly changed through the years. Hence when you look at the old timeless classic, you can tell that it is different.

However, it is still a very classic looking handbag, even though it looks different from today's timeless classic range, kwim?

As for the vintage jumbo xl, i find it edgy classic. I like it, that's why I bought one too .

I bought my XL vintage simply because I needed a larger size flap. I also prefer the more square shape flap of the XL vintage over the more rounded newer classics. And unlike others who prefer lightweight bags, I love heavier bags with chunky chains and hardware.

I actually would call the XL Jumbo timeless. My definition of timeless is that you can wear it now, in 10 yrs, 20 yrs, 50+ yrs, and it will still look stylish. True, the Vintage XL doesn't look exactly like the modern version, and you can tell it's vintage, but it's still very stylish and fashionable. So, to me, it is timeless. And I think we'll all be wearing ours in 5 years and beyond.

I actually do think the XL is timeless., it must have been quite an innovative introduction when it first came out since most handbags were smaller, I love the shape of it, how much it fits, and the hardware on it. It will definitely be still used in 5 years.....H

I'll be using mine in 5+ years. I agree that one can tell the subtle changes throughout time but I don't think they discredits vintage jumbos at all. Its just a different look and style.

I only like new flaps. I dont like the look of obvious vintage bags. You know, like those with a tassel, etc.

I totally agree. I'll wear mine for years to come. Frankly, I think the quality of the vintage jumbo flap is better than the modern flaps

I was just looking at some photos of the newer jumbo flaps and the way they curve downward reminds me of a sad face.

Def timeless. Yes shapes and the size of the CC's have changed but it's a matter of taste. And as a pp mentioned, timeless to me is if you can wear it decades from now w/o looking dated. It's all about how you carry yourself.
