Default Disappointed w/ Chanel quality

  1. My first Chanel - beige jumbo caviar flap: the leather interwoven on the chain is much darker, like it's dirty or something. It's ok. I was so excited to get it, and the color is hard to find. Then I notice the quiltings are not aligned. My friend told me I am picky, but I guess I do have high expectation for a 2K+ bag.
  2. Ordered the blue perfo jumbo flap: the thread is loose, I can pull it out a few inches. The holes are getting big, about to bust into one big hole, the leather at the bottom of the bag is slitted, like there is a razor cut. Returned it. But again, I might be too picky.
  3. Then today, I got the black perfo clutch: was so happy that the thread is tight, the holes are nice, so I said to myself, finally this one is a keeper. But then, as I open and close the clutch, a piece of silver coating falling out. What? Yes, the silver coating on the metal frame is peeling, I literally lift it up and peel it, showing the yellow color underneath. I want to cry, like I am buying a fake one from the dept store. Definitely will return it tomorrow.

Been a LV lover for years, I have to say that I never examine their bags so closely like I did w/ Chanel because I never have problem. Someone even said that they can count the threads, and they are all the same number. Don't know if it is true. So now, I wonder if Chanel worths the money after all. Maybe it's just me, having bad luck, maybe I can't do well w/ sale, maybe it's hard to purchase over the phone... maybe, maybe... I know, even though I am disappointed, I will buy again...

I think it's best if you buy only when you can inspect the item in person.

So sorry to hear, I think that it is unusual to to have all of those issues at once. Three bad apples in a row, so hopefully it is now over! Were the bags obtained during the sale ( perforated line went on sale just recently)? Any pics?

I spoke with a Chanel SA, and they actually told me that the stitching is never perfect because they are hand made. And they were trying to get the word out, don't know if you ladies heard different.

The beige jumbo flap I got it with the help of a very nice tpfer, so eventhough I am surprised that the quiltings do not lined up, I still love it çause it's hard to find, and it's my first Chanel, and the lining in leather, how luxury is that...

The perfo flap and perfo clutch are this recent sale purchases. Maybe because they are on sale, so they might not be in perfect condition???

The flaking of the silver coating on the metal frame is serious IMO. The clutch is 2 years old max, and it shows sign of age? I thought with the gold hardware, the gold color is faded with time, same as silver hardware, have no idea that it would peel off.

Honestly in this pricerange we should be able to expect smth close to perfection especially when handmade by skilled craftsmen.
The problem is when prices rise and quality decreases, you feel cheated....because it implys that we as customers are stupid since we are happy to merely buy a name.

I agree w/ Mon
You definitely should expect a PRISTINE bag and you're not wrong for returning anything.
I haven't ever had any quality problems though. . . don't be so turned off yet.

I have two beige Chanel bags and both bags came to me like this. There's something about the way that the leather reacts to the gold-plating on the hardware. Some tarnish ends up rubbing off on the leather... but you can actually rub it out. It will come back, however.

We two can't be the only ones who experience this with the gold hardware and light colored Chanels? Anyone else want to chime in?

That's a shame though, isn't it? It shouldn't have to be like that.

I've never purchased Hermès, but I think I would not have to do the same personal inspection with that brand... ?
