It seems so many authenticity tips have been posted already. One thing I can add is that you should always go to the Chanel boutique and check out the bag you want. Study it to the point that you really know what it "should" look like. A hologram sticker isn't enough, you should know where (exactly) the hologram sticker should be located in this model. Look at the inside zip pocket, does it have a leather pull or a Chanel logo pull? Most (I hesitate to say all) Chanel models are made to be exactly the same, so if you buy a 2007 2.55 classic flap, it should have all the same markings as the one you saw in the store.

The fakes keep getting better and better, so the best advice I can give is to buy directly from a Chanel boutique. You'll feel like a princess when you walk out with that shopping bag on your arm... trust me!

Fake ones usually have same serial numbers even for different style. You should always ask for the serial number and browse more often on internet.
As Swanky Mama said, it's not always that simple. There are shady people who will display pictures of an authentic piece on eBay, and then ship something else. That's what happened to me. We can't reinforce it often enough... if you want to be sure it's authentic Chanel, buy from an authorized boutique.

Have read through the tips and may have missed this.... It would be helpful for someone to offer information on the types of linings for different bags. I think someone went through the Cambon line, but I thought if there were other standards perhaps one of you Chanel Divas could offer up your knowledge?

There are just too many Chanel lines to list the linings for each one. Some are fabric, some are leather, and each line is different. Even within the same line some fabric are different colors as you see noted with the cambon bags.

I have seen in many fakes the goldish satin-like lining with the double CC's that is not in any of Chanel's authentic bags. And the colors of the zippers in my bags follow suit with the color of the fabric they are sewn to.

Black lambskin classic flaps have maroon leather lining. Black caviar classic flaps have black leather lining.

Also lately, I think, black lambskin Kelly is considered classic bag since the old black lambskin Kelly has black leather lining but the new one has maroon lining.

The maroon color on authentic bag is very dark red color. It's easy to spot fake bag by comparing the lining color on black lambskin.

I post here some pictures from my medium black lambskin I just bought. I don't like double flaps but I love maroon color lining so much that I have to grab one lambskin classic before the price goes beyond my reach.

i am a chanel lover with limited funds, so I can't always go into the boutique to buy one at retail price (especially with the canadian tax being so high!), so i look on ebay for deals all the time, proud to say i've never been burnt thanks to the lovely ladies in the auth forum~ for the time being, i've noticed all fakes are lambskin and cambon gets faked the most. i have never seen a caviar fake. the way that i protect my self from buying a fake, besides examining 1) whether auth card match hologram number inside bag 2) is the screw correct 3)is the gold stamp suspicious looking 4) check with the auth forum
is that I usually research on ioffer and "fake" websites prior to my purchase and see what new fakes are out. lately i wanted a medallion and i searched on google for one, to my surprise i discovered that they have fake lambskin medallions with awkward tassels on the side! All i can say is, know thy enemy and know thy self, be one step ahead of them and you will be safe! If you have the time and want to snatch up a good deal on ebay, you must be prepared!

these days, some fakes can almost past for the real thing, and you have to be extra careful.

1. before bidding or purchasing, ask as many questions as possible. especially on ebay. A seller selling authentic products will stand behind what they are selling. also ask for more photos.

2. sometimes fakes can be easy to spot by just looking at the bag (not always the case, but some are obvious) price for example, if a "chanel" bag is being sold for $300. Ask yourself, would you buy a $2,000 bag and then resell it for $300? that can also help you filter out the obvious

3. Always check their reputation. there was this website where you can look up the usernames past products and the feedback given by the buyer. it dated back all the way to the start of that buyer's business. I forgot the website. will find it and post later.
