What about the authenticity card with the number that matches the sticker inside... I noticed some bags on eBay with this card that missed the white 'dot' in the right above corner. I only know that the bag I bought at chanel's boutique has one, but maybe this is only recently? I'm not sure they always had this... Does anyone know for sure about this white hologram 'dot'?

Older cards do not have the white hologram dot.

The older/vintage bags came in white soft felted covers with a CC in a circle on the center, no drawstring closure.

Apologies to Swanky and everyone else for my slowing down the board.

I found my answer in the eBay Guide: How to spot a fake Chanel. For anyone else who may be curious about those pesky dog tags, the author of this particular guide claims,...

"C H A N E L did not make the little metal dog tag or
small coin purse attached to many of the fakes seen on eBay."

I would just like to add that Chanel did indeed make a "dogtag" type keychain. It is sold separately and I have seen some people hang them from their bags which I think cheapens the bag. The dogtag keychain retails for $150. Just another thing to add to the confusion.

Here is an example of a fake pair of sunglasses. The 5076 is a popular pair and therefore highly faked.

The font of the markings on the left arm is wrong. On the left arm (where you can see the model number, color code etc.) there shouldn't be a capital C in front of the color code. On an authentic pair there should be also a dot after the c: c. and then the color code. There should also be more space between the different codes on the arm.

Fake:

Authentic, borrowed from eBay:

They also tried to copy the certificate of authenticity, but they have made a few mistakes.
In the last sentence they have made a typo: in the wofld of Chanel and the font of the Chanel eyewear department address is wrong.

Fake:

Authentic:

On older classic flap bags there was debate about how the screws should line up on the oval back plate. Based on our interpretation of a tip on Burberry_Princess' eBay about me page we believed that in order for a vintage Chanel to be authentic the back plate had to be exactly like the picture directly below. In other words that the screws had to be on the narrower ends of the oval plate and Chanel Paris on the wider sides of the oval.

Recently we had discussions with RANAG from the eBay "shoes, purses, and accessories" forum, and then contacted Burberry_Princess for clarification of her authentication page. I also sought to get clarification if possible from Chanel and was lucky to get a verbal agreement from someone in repairs with 20+ years experience.

So in conclusion on older "vintage" classic flap bags the orientation of the screws and Chanel Paris on oval back plates can be BOTH ways.

CHANEL should always be on top however and PARIS below.

Yes. However, depending on the angle at which the picture is taken it may look mis-aligned, so the picture must be taken from exactly infront of the bag (not to the side, not from the top, not from the bottom, etc.)

but does the quilting on the back pocket always have to line up with the rest of the back of the bag, even in the older/vintage flap bags? thanks
