this is a place for you to tell us your tips. . . we don't authenticate in this thread, it's for reference only.
Please post in the correct thread, "Authenticate This!" in the Chanel Shopping Forum.

2. New models come in black dustbag stamped with the word CHANEL. Material should be made in a kind of rather coarse cotton. I have seen a fake one with similar color dustbag but the material is soft and flimsy.

3. Authenticity Card
Now many of the fakes come with authenticity card that also match the hologram. One surefire way to identify it is to put the card under the light and see the gold line that surrounds the wordings (sorry I have no picture to make myself clearer). Turn the card side to side and if you catch the light reflections in a multicolor glint - it means that it's fake! The real one only reflects gold lights. I got this knowledge from the boutique itself and it has been a great tip for me to spot the fake bags. Also the fake card is thinner (you can bend it a little) whereas the real ones are thicker and sturdier.

4. Authenticity Booklet
The real Chanel bag comes with accompanying authenticity booklet which is usually enclosed in an envelope. The fakes come with those cheap looking folded card in black or white in inverted square shape.

4. Hologram
Try to peel off the hologram with your nails. The real ones stick real hard to the leather whereas the fake ones easily peeled off.

Hope this help.

To Rui Hanazawa:

Thanks especially for the tip about the multi-color reflection from the gold stripe on fake cards. I checked all my cards, and the one that I suspected was a fake (bought on e-bay) definitely is. I've learned a lot in the past year or so, thanks to experts like you, who post such helpful information.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS & HAPPY SHOPPING TO EVERYONE!

Thanks. If you don't mind, could you show us a picture of the white dustbag? I wonder if it's the old one which came with the bags from the older series or if this is something completely new. Thanks in advance

Pictures of hologram stickers and corresponding serial number series (I use "around" to mean not exact, but close enough...this will give you a ballpark):

0XXXXXX and 1XXXXXX series - picture 1

2XXXXXX to around 26XXXXX series - picture 2

27XXXXX to around 56XXXXX series - picture 3 and 4

around 57XXXXX series - picture 5 and 6 (see next post)

I apologize in advance if this has been answered before...

I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of XL jumbo classic flaps bags on ebay lately. Some of them show the inside metal twist lock plate with "Chanel" "Paris" etched top and bottom and the screws on the sides, and others show the screws top and bottom and Chanel Paris on the sides. Does that make sense?

Are they both authentic?

Thanks for your help. I would like to buy one from a few years ago but I also know that there are a lot of "good" fakes out there and of course, I want to be sure. Thanks again.

Hello everybody! Anybody in the fashion business??? Well, YKK or anything else... you should try to reach Chanel Inc and ask about the business and who are working with them. Of course, they won't tell... But you don't have that many zipper manufacturer on the market and YKK is one the best and the oldest. You can look for it on Wikipedia. Ad to that, at the time of manufacturing their goods, everything depends on their contracts and with who they're dealing with. I actually used to work in the fashion industry (worked in Paris for a Maison de Couture also ) so I know what I am talking about. And of course the price of luxury is the price of the Brand Name and the savoir-faire. As an employee, we could buy the things for soooo cheap! For example, I bought my Manolo Blahnik shoes for 25 dollars. You see...

Ok, you guys need to know that if some of the CC closure for the bag are stamped, it is because it is gold plated ( at leat 24 karat ). This is the reason why some have this little mark and some don't. French uses this on their jewelry and anything with gold. ( two marks means gold filled ). I own a 24 karats gold plated Chanel brooch and this little mark is on it too. And also, some of my other jewelry - that are not Chanel - that 24 karat gold plated are stamped this way too. Know that France always sells jewelery that is at least 24 karats gold plated ( not 14 karats like here in USA: the higher the karat is, the more Gold there is in there).

I first noticed (and posted) this in the Authenticate This Chanel thread, but thought it would be useful here as well:

Hi all, I just wanted to make an observation. There seems to be a new common serial number for the fakes: 11862387. Take a look at this (posted on page 261):

And then take a look at this:

Fake Perfect Day Auction

The fonts still look off, but they are, unfortunately, getting closer.

There are some new fakes of the Perfect Day bag and Modern Chains, but I guess this fake serial number could appear on anything. HTH.

The quilting on many of the fakes is puffier, fatter and it has kind of a cut edge. It is more noticeable on the ones advertised as lambskin, they seem to shine more and very puffy and fat.

The leather inside the chain is seamed differently on many of the fakes. H
