I think for her first Chanel a black medium caviar flap is perfect, especially if she's going to use it for going out at night, it hold just the right amount of stuff and it's not too big/too small. There's also the east/west, same style but not as tall

Check out the Library for more pics and $$$, you are a very sweet husband....

I DEFINITELY think that you should get the medium/large size. The jumbo is a bit large for going out at night- even if she is 5'5' (and I'm going to assume 5'8"ish with heels).. unless she likes big bags. However, if you want her to be able to use it during the day as well (looking stylish at lunch or maybe for running errands), the jumbo would be better. It depends on her lifestyle. Also, black caviar is pretty indestructible and looks better with silver hardware (in my humble opinion). Black lambskin is BEAUTIFUL, especially for nights out, and looks gorgeous and classic with the gold hardware. (Gold hardware is the original color of the hardware on the 2.55 bags that Coco Chanel released-- a black lambskin bag with gold hardware is just about as classic as you can get.) Either way, you have received some great advice from the ladies here and I hope your wife adores (I'm sure she will be stunned and ecstatic) with whatever you purchase for her. Good luck and enjoy shopping!!

PS. Don't forget to INSIST on a brand new bag from the back, not the display. Make sure because these bags cost a pretty penny and you should get the newest one possible!! And see if they will wrap it all pretty for you, with the Chanel ribbon and the camellia flower decorations. I just adore the little touches, and I'm sure she will too!

Yeah I would definitely get her the black caviar Jumbo if she plans to use the bag during the day as well. The Jumbo CAN be used at night too but it may be better to wear a smaller flap at night so it all depends what she wants to use the bag for. How much stuff does she carry in her bags? Does she normally carry big or small bags?

I think for what you have told us, the Medium/Large Black Caviar Classic flap ($1995 until November 1st) is the way to go. But I will tell you, it doesn't fit that much. Here is a picture of me wearing the Medium/Large:

Another idea if you maybe wanna do a tote is the Medallion. I have this bag and I use it for both day and night. It's not too big and not too small. It fits everything! Here are pictures of me wearing it:

I always go gold hardware on my Chanels but that's because I love gold jewelry. Plus I personally think gold on Chanels looks better because it's so classic!

Good luck! Let us know what you choose for your wife. What a great husband you are!!!

Your wife is a veeeeery lucky lady!

I second one of the comments that suggested you thoroughly inspect the bag. When you're spending that much money (particularly if it's a gift!) it should be immaculate. No loose threads, all the quilting should be perfect etc. Don't be shy about being fussy! You're allowed to be when buying Chanel

You are a wonderful husband. I would get a medium /large caviar classic flap.

Off topic....Starbrite310...would it be outrageously funny if we could only wear 2 bags at a time, like in your pic!

And.... You are a sweet husband...in my case I have to "hide" the "evidences" (aka Chanel) from my husband

^^ I agree. Check the hardware on her other accessories to see if she favors gold or silver / white gold. Also, if she's 5'5", I would go for the medium/large classic flap. I'm about that size and I think the jumbo looks too big on me for an evening bag. BTW, the medium/large is one size, Chanel doesn't make a "large" in the classic flap, so we've come to call the medium size the medium/large.

It's so refreshing to see a husband doing some research to surprise his wife I mention the word Chanel and my DH walks out of the room!
