Last time I checked, the average Chanel coat was somewhere around $5-6k. I think you should definitely appreciate this token of luck and keep it! Get it altered. A tweed coat is such a must-have, signature Chanel piece, and the fact that you got it for free makes it even better!

i would keep it and have it altered. eBay or a consignment store would be an option, too.

Take it to Chanel for professional alteration. Chanel jackets are made to be re-sized. They have extra fabric inside the seams and can be altered up or down by three sizes in either direction. If you are about three sizes smaller than your cousin, this jacket can probably be altered to fit you. In any case, take it to Chanel, not just any tailor.

I would think at the most it would be $100. So well worth it! You are really very lucky to have gotten this...imagine it with everyhting from jeans to a cocktail dress. It will never go out of style!!!

At least go in to Chanel and SEE if the coat can be altered to fit you. That's like passing up a winning lottery ticket if you just sell it. You could use it for the rest of your life, it will never go out of style.

I also vote to take it to a Chanel boutique for alteration. They can take a look and tell you how much it costs to get it to fit you, and if they can do it at all. I don't know what size you wear, but they can tell you at the boutique. Then you can decide if you want to sell it. If at all possible, I'd keep it! It's a great gift, and while new ones retails for $5k now, you won't get a price anywhere near that selling it on eBay or CL. Prices for Chanel jackets on Ebay have a wide range. If you're really curious as to the price, try to search for completed auctions. Congrats on such a great gift, you lucky duck.
