I don't get it! I think it was pretty clear that I was there to make a purchase. What kind of person do you have to give off a vibe that you are going to buy an item? looking not too young with fancy clothes and fancy handbag? hmm.. I can't help with the age thing.. but also I don't know if I want to dress to impress the SA's..

waterlily, you shouldn't have to change your attire to be treated equally like every other potential customer (this is in an ideal world)..you as the consumer should be tended/catered to... I hope that you stick to this conviction..just brush it off, and make sure if an SA is rude, to ask to speak to the manager or request a different SA....I don't know but I would want to let the SA know that their service was unsatisfactory and maybe(hopefully) they'd change their behavior in the future

First time I went into a Chanel Store in Germany..they didnt even notice me..I had the feeling they didnt want to notice me..?! So I spoke to a SA and she looked at me then at my LV again at me and said: What do you want? Really unfriendly and annoyed! Wt*??

I was so upset that I started talking in french I know it was mean I just couldnt hold back anymore and left without buying what i wanted..
Went to Belgium instead and had a great great service!!

I think they can often tell, regardless of what you are wearing--let me tell you I am a prime example of not looking so hot when I have purchased all of my Chanels--whether you are a serious buyer or not. I have never been ignored if I am definitely looking. Once or twice I have been watched which I found annoying but maybe it would have been more annoying if the chick was in my face, but also that day I really was just looking, so....................... that said though I do think that especially in the boutiques the service can be off. But my experience isn't just about a random salesperson once. And frankly it sounds like outside of NYC the SAs might be nicer??!!?? I don't know. It feels bad when it happens but I always move on to the next SA who deserves the commission (whether the first really cared or not... I too am curious re: % Anybody know?) And when it comes to scratched bags and looking for a perfect one you may have given off the vibe that nothing was going to be good enough and they wouldn't have sold you the bag at all. Not that that is an excuse... at all! Next time you know to go to BG since they treated you best and they carry a lot :) And as far as 57th street goes they get so much foot traffic from tourists etc and then have some pretty hefty clients otherwise so really if it's not an easy sale or a longstanding filthy rich client or whatever you want to call it they don't have an incentive to care... and I am sure there are exceptions, just the nature of the beast.

I don't have any bad experiences when buying my Chanel. I mean I normally know what I'm looking for so I just get straight to the point, and they are okay with that. I was being treated unfriendly once in another boutique (not Chanel, it's G***i), but it's their loss especially knowing how much I'm willing to pay for a purse. I'm sorry that you went through the whole ordeal, take your business somewhere else, and no- please don't alter your outfits or appearance to get the service. You are fine the way you are.

I had good experience in Chanel Rome too but last few days I called Milan because there were no stock in Rome and guess what? Since the usual Valentina was not around I spoke to another SA and she was super rude!!! I was tempted to say " I'm buying a bag that costs your month salary and you want to show attitude with me?" But of course I didnt. My DH said, we'll never buy from Milan store..at least not from that SA from hell!

Generally, I find the SAs at stores in USA to be very nice and helpful. I assume they get provision? On my recent visit to USA I visited several stores both department stores selling Chanel and boutiques trying to find a black mini flap. In NYC I first visited Saks, then Chanel on 57th and ended up at Bergdorf. I bought my bag at Bergdorf, not a mini flap but another bag that I loved. I thougt the SAs at Bergdorf to be nicest and they showed me other bags as well as the mini flap. None of the other stores had offered to show me other bags when they did not have what I asked for.

The SA at Rodeo Drive were also very polite but the SAs at Bellagio in Las Vegas just ignored me even though I was the only customer in the boutique. The lady at Bellagio followed me 2 steps behind in the store without saying a word and I felt like she was watching me so I did not steal anything. It was daytime and I was wearing jeans and sweater. I talked to my Hubby about it afterwards and I contemplated dressing up with my newly bought Chanel bag from Bergdorfs and walking into the store again to see if I got treated the same way.

I'm asian too and looks fairly young. However, I walk in with an attitude, mostly I know exactly what I want or what I am looking for and if I don't and I notice the SA's are rude material anyway, I just act out fully. I want my service and I deserve it. Be rude to me, and I'll be rude back, but I want my bag!

I don't exactly have a choice either, I live in a town with only one Saks and one Nordies. However, both of them have been more than friendly.

Now, if I lived somewhere where I had choices, I would totally go somewhere else.

Ha ha, yep, I'm one for attitude as well. I went into Holt Renfrew once straight after an early class (yoga pants, no $$$ bag etc.) and actually got a sniffy "well, those pants look...comfortable..." from an SA on of the cosmetics counters. I just smiled at her and said something along the lines of "next time I come in I'll be sure to wear my croc-skin Balenciaga bellbottoms". She at least had the decency to laugh and look a little ashamed. Generally I try to make light of this sort of thing, rather than being rude like I'm sometimes tempted to be. "YOU'RE giving ME attitude? You work in a shop!" etc. That would make me as bad as them.
